I was following a Pre-Model 27 with a 3.5 inch barrel on GunBroker recently. I quit bidding when it hit $1200. It went to sell for $1750!

Are the Pre-27's, especially in the shorter barrel lengths that desirable? Obviously someone thought so, and paid that much for the privilege of owning it.

Anyone else have experience with current sales on short barreled Pre-27's?

Guns in general are sky high. Some more than others. Seen Colt prices recently? The 3.5" 357 S&Ws are very sought after and often the prices appear ridiculous but somebody is willing to pay them.

Pre-model guns bring more. Top condition drives the price up.

I have three 3.5" N Frames. A nearly perfect 27-2 that I bought for $350... in 1988. A blued pre-27 that is in maybe 70% condition cost me $275... in 1998. A nickel pre27 in about the same shape cost me $400... in 2006.

Today? Who knows what they would bring?

I keep telling my wife that she will inherit a million dollar estate when I die. I don't think she believes me. But if I can hang on for another 15 years, at the current rate of inflation...

I wish I had hung on to all the 3.5" 27's I've had and sold over the years, I may actually have had a chance at retirement some day.

I have at least one of every barrel length available in pre-27 and payed less than $1500 for the last and most expensive; a 5" full target.I think that $1700 or more is too much for pre-27s and if your patient,a better deal will come your way.
