Is the trigger pin on a Browning High Power a one way in, one way out Tapered Pin?

I have a chance to get a Browning HP in 40 cal.

Owner states and show(photos) that the gun has a Cylinder and Slide
wide Browning trigger and the Magazine safety does not work because of the wide trigger.

There marks on the frame and on the trigger pin that looks like a metal hammer was used to pound the pin in.

Which is Why I'm asking if that pin is tapered and goes in from only one side?

Thank you

I can't answer the pin question, but would like to pass a little info. I had a HP .40 years ago. I hated the narrow factory trigger. It would eat my finger up during an extended range visit. I wish it had had a wide trigger.

From what I have read on the Hi Power forum, that pin is not tapered. It is a one way pin never the less, as one of the holes (I believe the right side) is slightly smaller - the pin is drifted from right to left. I've also read of some of these pins being very hard to get moving. Consequently, more than one Hi Power user has marred the finish around that hole if the area is not masked off pretty good.

Besides the wider trigger face on that C&S after market trigger, removing that pin and then removing the magazine safety is supposed to make a big improvemet in the trigger. Due to the number of Hi Powers I've seen with boogered up finishes around that very trigger pin, I've always left mine stock and just adjusted to the trigger.

BTW, pins are said to be tougher on the epoxy finished pistols. Is that what finish yours has?

The BHP trigger pin is not tapered, and neither is the hole in the frame. The pin is grooved in the center and held in place by the trigger reset spring resting in the groove in the pin. The pins are generally pressed out by 'smiths, and hammered out by those who don't know better.

Aloha,

Thank You.

That's what I love about this forum.

More knowledge than a Library.

Haven't personally seen the gun, just photos. Asking price is $650 with 3 magazines. 10 rounder for here in Hawaii.

It's a Want not a Must have. I just saw the ad and was wondering.

Thanks again for the info.

All I've owned(a couple) do push in from the right side, at least that's the way they come from the factory.

They do tend to crawl out....on some guns.

The mag safty is a piece that rubs on the front of the mag, attatched to the trigger. Commonly removed, although, a small drop of lube, and use(shines up the front spot on the mag the safty piece rubs on) helps the trigger pull.

Although the trigger pin and its corresponding hole in the frame are cylindrical and not tapered, the pins are chamfered a bit on the one end to facilitate starting in the hole.

The reason some crawl out is insufficient force by the trigger reset spring in the pin groove. Slight tweaking with a pair of needle-hose pliers in the right spot stops the BHP trigger pins from walking.

The same sort of concept is used on the M16/AR15 fire control group pins.

+100. Could not agree more. I am a big fan of the BHP, and have seven BHPs in 9x19 and zero in .40.

Noah, here we thought you were an S&W guy, and it turns out you'er a HP whiz! (Good info -- thanks! ;))

So, why is the T series so revered?

Aloha,

Just wondering, is there any particular reason the 40 isn't popular?

I have a standard 9mm and like it, but I don't like the almost invisible front sight.

I was thinking this 40 might be nice because it has a better front sight.

The Wife and I also have 2 Beretta 96s in 40 SW and like them.

I have a 610 and find it kinda "Barky" with 40 and "Blasty" with 10mm with snappy recoil. Or is it just me?

Thanks again

I'd just send it in to Bill and the boys at C&S and let them install a new trigger etc on it and save yourself the headache and live secure in the fact that you are getting one amazing handgun back from them.
