Question on the CMMG 22LR Kits

I bought a M&P 15T at my range yesterday and grabbed a few boxes of 5.56 today. For the time being I plan on keeping it as is. But I've seen the 22LR kits at Brownells and may pick one up the next time I'm there. Anyone know what the difference is in CMMG's models (echo, bravo)? Brownells has the bravo with 3 25rd magazines kit. I have a M&P 15-22 Sport MOE also so that's why I'm debating going with a conversion on the 15T.

The Bravo kit is the base line kit. As you go through the phonetic alphabet from Bravo to India, each kit has more features such as working forward assist and last shot bolt hold open. The difference between Alpha and Bravo is that the Alpha was phosphate, where the Bravo and on are stainless.

Had excellent results with a CMMG Bravo .22 LR conversion in a SIG PM400 AR pistol.
A fun low-cost plinking option, however, I learned not to expect match rifle results.
Bore diameters of 5.56 and .22 LR are not the same! The rimfire round has a relatively casual relationship to the bore - works for range fun and plinking fine though......

That looks like a pretty good deal. I just bought one from PSA for $169 and after adding shipping and tax it came to $194 and change. Pretty decent deal since their regular price is $199

Google the Lightning Loader from McFadden Machine when you get your conversion kit. They will load a .22 LR AR magazine in about 10 seconds. There are on line vids showing how they work.

- Not that I've ever noticed.
The actual conversion kit needs to be cleaned well though, as bulk .22 is pretty dirty and with enough fouling buildup, it'll start giving problems.

Any small amount of residue left in/around the AR's gas system seems to be obliterated by the much higher pressure round when 5.56 is fired.

The only problem would be if you shot only .22lr thru your rifle.

.22's generate lead build up. With enough of that you can occlude your gas system.
Years ago I was shooting lots of Federals bulk (the 550 round box) thru my M-16.
The number of rounds I shot plated out on the flash hider and looked like solder stalactites.
To clean them off I did a magazine dump. It blew off the lead.

You probably would never see that in a semi-auto unless you had a dedicated .22 with lots of use.

I wish we would get a couple of days of good hard rain to knock down the fire danger so the outdoor ranges can open back up. I want to give it a try in both of my 5.56 ARs.

So around $178-$179 with tax. Not bad.
I see they just lowered the price again - now they are marked down to $156.63 - with 7% sales tax that would come to $167.69

I've had the CMMG kit, the old USAF kit, and some other I couldn't quite remember. They all worked fine, at least by the standards of janky .22lr conversions, but the bore diameter or twist rate (both?) was different enough that without a .22lr barrel you'd get poor accuracy and other weird results (keyhole impacts were common). All in all, it was annoying enough that combined with the hassle of swapping the BCG, I abandoned the concept.

If I had a spare upper with a dedicated .22lr barrel it'd be a great system, but once you get to that point it's easy enough pricewise to just buy a 15/22 or any other better dedicated .22lr rifle. It's the kind of idea I loved, but ultimately like most of the conversions the money would be better spent on either a dedicated .22lr or by being dumped on more 5.56 ammo.

After shooting the 22LR I always put the 556 bolt back in and fire at least 20 rounds to blow out the gas tube.Then take it home and clean the barrel with some Hoppe's #9 .
The speed loader talk about in the thread works great and is worth the money.

I'm not sure how often I'll use the CMMG kit but I got it for a decent price so........
I agree though about buying more 5.56 ammo instead of the kit but I was able to score a few 20rnd boxes of PMC .223 for under ten dollars while in the store.
