Hi,
The subject line says it all pretty much. I have a chance to trade my new Kimber Pro Carry II,9mm,4" for a S&W 1911 Sc in .45. Does anyone know anything about the Sc? I have looked but see a ton about the PD. I am tending toward keeping my Kimber. I have 6 or 7 S&W's ( revolvers and semi's). I also have a few Kimbers. I have no complaints about any of them. Any suggestions will be helpful!!

Thanks,
Chuck

Another thing is, is that you really don't see many 9mm 1911's. I have looked and it seems Kimber and Para make them, but no one else. I have heard good things and bad about Para so they are an unknown quantity to me.
I did just read where someone here had 3 Kimbers and ALL were crap! I have 3 and they are fine...my Aegis is a tack driver, especially for a 3"!

For me the question isn't as much about which gun, S&W or Kimber, as it is which caliber. I've owned a ton of 9mm's over the years and all, with one exception, are simply boring! The 9mm is a great caliber I guess but it just doesn't do anything that a bigger caliber doesn't do better. I would trade for the .45 in a heartbeat.

Can't believe I am typing this, but I would probably keep the Kimber, if it is a reliable gun, that functions and fires to your satisfaction. Nothing against the S&W, since I would love to have a 1911SC, but couldn't see trading a gun that I am familiar with and was satisfied with for another current production gun, that can be purchased whenever you have the money.

Just my $.02

I would make the deal. A .45 beats a 9mm every time.

Kimber makes a good gun and I have two of them

S&W makes a good gun and I own a lot of them.

I just bought a new S&W 1911 Pro .45acp and, after firing it for the fisrt time on Wednesday, I would face hell with that gun in my hand. It is without a doubt the finest shooting gun I ever owned and I have owned and still own a lot of fine, expensive guns. This new S&W impressed me so much I wrote S&W a letter telling them how I felt and expressing my compliments toward the gun. It is highly accurate out of the box withou being adjusted for my vision and handling. The recoil is so much better than my older S&W .45acp and the fit & finish is beyond compare. I consider it miles ahead of Kimber and the .45acp is way better than any 9mm can ever be.

More correctly, and do not get mad at me for saying this, you have a 1911 variant. A 1911 is a .45acp. The great Jeff Cooper referred to the 9mm as a wimpy mouse gun and called a 1911 in any caliber other than a .45acp as a variant.

While I do own and occasionally shoot 9mm guns, I do not want to use one for SD unless I am forced to do so. Being fair, I also carried a .40 Glock but now seeking permission to carry a new S&W 1911 since it is so much better than my Kimbers or Glocks.

Go with the S&W. Or tell me where I can get the 1911 and I will see if I can buy it outright.
