I think the S&W 38 Specials are all six shots except for the J frames which are five. There could be an exception or two I suppose, some of the N frame 357s are also 38 Special capable and some of those are seven shots and the 627 is eight if I remember correctly.

I currently have 6 K frame 38 special revolvers. They are great guns and are still relevant self defense tools.

As you pointed out, S&W currently makes 38/357 J K L N framed revolvers. The J is a 5 shot, K & L is a 6 shot but there are some 7 shot Ls, and 6-8 shot Ns.

My K-Frame model 64 is a six shot 38 Special .
in stainless-steel and one of my favoirite shooters !

I believe another famous model ... the model 10 was a six shot K-frame in 38 Special in blue steel ... production has been more than a few ... it was very popular .

Probably the two most popular revolvers S&W has ever produced are the 6 shot M15 & M10 (and their stainless brothers). Every Cop in America carried either a 6 shot K frame by S&W or a similar Colt for many decades. The only popular 5 shot 38 special revolver S&W has made is their line of Chief Special J Frames.
