Hi,
I'm learning a lot about my guns here tonight. I don't even know if I am in the right area. I don't know a 3 screw from a 5.
My revolver is a 14-3 SA, # 619xx. This is the number under the grip on the frame. I bought it in the box and I think I am the only one to fire it. I shot a dozen thru it and put it away.
Could someone date it for me and what would be the approximate value.

5K38665 is your serial number and that's what should be on the bottom of the grip frame, butt. It's from 1973. I got a M14-3 SAO a while back in excellent condition for $425 OTD. Very good shooter.

I changed the 72 to 73.

You were right on! I didn't look at the BOTTOM of the butt. I should have know as my K-22 is in the same place.

What does the SAO and SA stand for?

Thanks for the information.

onie41 - Beautiful gun and great pictures!
I think it is cool how the numbers are stamped in the frame cutout. It appears that a mistake was made and a 3 was stamped over a 2

Your right, the 3 is over the 2. I hadn't paid much attention until you mentioned it. I had just noticed that the numbers were messed up a little. I wasn't even sure if that was the serial #
Digital cameras will show up lots of things.

SAO means single action only for my gun. Some of these left the factory like this but you could also buy the parts and change them later. I don't know if my gun is original SAO or not but I don't really care. It shoots great.
Do you have the original box with yours and is SA on the box?

Yes, I do have the box in new shape with the label and SA is the description on the end. It always amazes me how they stuffed a gun in a box that wasn't wide enough. Maybe there is a reason that I haven't thought about.

Came with service stocks, not target?

Back then I believe magnas would have been standard on that gun so dsf is probably correct. In any event, you have a wonderful example of what many of us believe is the finest .38 S&W ever made. The stocks are probably a few years newer than the gun. What's the box say about stocks?

The "I shoots 'em all crowd" would wear the snot out of that gun at the range, and I'd be sorely tempted, but I think it will be a long time before you see another as nice(if ever).

Your gun, your call. Do what ever makes you happy.

A little more on this thread. This is what the ends of the box have marked on them. Most of it doesn't make sense to me.
What would be a ballpark price on this pistol.
Thanks for the information in advance. :)

The "S" under stock stands for service stock,If the gun shipped from the factory with target stocks the letter would be "T".Also the gun would have been shipped in a slightly larger (in width)K frame box.You have a great example of a world class target revolver.

Thanks for the information. As soon as it warms up, and that will be a while from the looks of it here in Mt. I'll have to give it a little more action. :D

Left to right is the model no, a 14-3. Next is Blued finish followed by 6" barrel. The "S" stands for service stocks which are smaller than the target stocks. The "TH" and the "TT" stand for target hammer and target trigger. and they are wider than the standard type.

The SA in special feature means that it left the factory as a single action. Rather than the double action sear being removed or the hammer modified the single action hammer is distinctly different than a "modified DA" version.

K-38 is another name for the Model 14.

I assume the handwritten "14 - SA" stands for Model 14 Single Action.

That's as far as I can go.

So that is what the TT and TH mean. I had no idea but it makes sense after you point it out.

Thanks
