Daughter just turned 21 and wants something with a manual safety. I sold my old Shield .40 a bazillion years ago when we transitioned to 357. But she remembers shooting it and it fit her hand fine back then.

Is the new Shield Plus in 9mm and .30 super carry about the same size?

I know we missed the magazine summer freebies.

The 30sc is on sale for $299. The Shield+ 9mm is $399. I told her the 9mm is probably the better bet even though it is $100 more because I’m overflowing in 9mm ammo and have no 30SC.

She just finished her CCW class with my fraken-Glock 19/19X. She really wants a manual safety so I recommended the Shield or SIG P365. She thinks the P365 is too small.

I have used both the early shield 9mm and the shield plus 9mm. I currently have the plus. It’s nearly the same size as the shield. Mainly its grip is a fraction wider. I have big hands and use the 15 round mags in my 9mm shield plus. It’s an absolutely great gun. IMO if she liked the shield. She will love the plus. I am using the same holster I had for the shield. Hope this helps.

The .30 SC and 9 mm Shields use the same grip module (frame). The .30 barrel may be heavier if it uses the 9 mm barrel blank with less metal removed but I doubt there is a big weight difference.

The $100 price drop from the 9 mm may be an indication of low demand, which may be followed by hard to find ammunition in the near future. All in all, the 9 mm Plus may be the better option.

Of course smith is having a rebate sale after I already got her shield.

Going to break it in now before she carries it. Also going to break in a P09 I bought at the same time. It was cheaper than the Shield.
