Another fine old character died yesterday; Harry Carey, Jr. was seen in many John Wayne movies over the years. That's 3 actors in the past couple of weeks.
Wow. I almost got to feeling he was immortal. just the other day we watched Tombstone again and i was thinking about his film legacy and realized that movie was made in 1993! and he was kind of old in that movie. I think we just lost the last link to the old John Ford/John Wayne era.
The feeling is sadness tempered with the comfort that this guy lived a long good life.
Wow! What a life Dobe lived. His Dad was one of the earliest western heroes. Jr.was part of John Ford's standard cast and then acted in most of the last 20 or so John Wayne movies And did bit rolls on TV from the 50's until recently. A life lived well with a lot of notable close friends
What Mr. Burp said............Now I gotta put in a movie and watch him along with the Duke......maybe Island in the Sky or with Tom Selleck in Last Stand at Saber River.........Yup, I'm grabbin' Last Stand........
Dang, I just watched "Three Godfathers" which I think said introducing Harry Carey, JR., I honestly didn't know he was still around. All the old actors I liked are passing fast, RIP, I always enjoyed his movies...
I am sorry to hear this. He was a good character actor and in a ton of films, mostly westerns. He branched out and was even in "Gremlins" In the background most of the time, but, you knew he was there. RIP Harry Carey Jr.
I always watch him in " The Searchers". I´ve read that The Duke was a great friend of his father. On the closing scene of said picture John Wayne(Ethan) stands at the open door with his right arm crossed, his right hand grasping his left arm. This was a tribute to Harry Carey.
Regards, Ray
Rest in peace to one of the great actors of our time. He may not have been a headliner, like the Duke, but he was in a LOT of movies, both with John Wayne, and with other greats.
It's really nice that we have him on film, to enjoy over and over.
He was VERY good in his many roles, too.
I hate seeing the people I loved watching in films pass away. It feels like I knew him, and he's gone now.
I own very few movies. I hope one of the TV channels runs some of his films, soon.
That was his mother that played in The Searchers as well.
I did not realize he was in Tombstone. I know exactly the role he played now.
I have a lot of John Wayne DVD's, and it was a while before I figured out he was in Big Jake. He really looked different with a little makeup. Pretty grungy.
Damn; All the old actors are passing away fast. I was always a fan of Harry Carey & his son,Jr. They made a bunch of films for sure. Of course my favorive is "Stagecoach" Where Harry Carey played the Army Lt. Fine acting by great actors. RIP Harry, Jr.
