Just heard on the evening news that Patty Duke passed away at the age of 69. No further info at present as to cause of death or whether she had been ill. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 16 for her portrayal of the young Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker."

She passed away from sepsis due to a ruptured intestine.

This seems somewhat hard to believe in this day and age...she must not have been able to get medical attention in time or something? Or maybe the condition just wasn't treatable in time, I don't know. It's sad, no matter what the reasons.

She was more talented than people gave her credit for, even after her crazy real depiction of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker.

Sixty-nine seems so young to me. It seems as if a whole generation is disappearing on an almost daily basis.

It was a shock! I admired her because she only played strong female roles. I never saw her in anything where she played the stereotypical weak female hollywood likes to shove down our throats (i.e. running and tripping, hysterical, etc).

Had a crush on her myself many years ago. She once made a movie where she learns to fly helicopters in the Army don't remember the name of the film.

Sorry to see her go, R.I.P. Patty.

This is a tribute thread......

... but I get your drift. I'm starting a thread on this type of acting.
