Gary Beikirch was a local resident in my town. He and his wife Loreen have a large family here (5 kids I think). A local park named for him.
Always active in Veterans affairs, he also worked as a HS counsellor.
Loreen was from the NH town where Gary used to wander into once everyso often from his 'cave'. IIRC she worked in either a small store or maybe the PO there.
Cancer ultimately took him.
RIP.

Giants roamed this earth.

Beikirch's military decorations and awards include:

Medal of Honor
Distinguished Service Cross (upgraded to the Medal of Honor)
Silver Star
Bronze Star Medal
Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster
National Defense Service Medal
Vietnam Service Medal
Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Combat Infantryman Badge
Parachutist Badge
Special Forces Tab

Rest in peace. Your watch has been relieved and your relief has been posted. You talked the talk and walked the walk, to those of us that served, no greater honor can be given.
