Rail Flashlight

Can anyone help me out choosing a rail mounted flashlight for my 15-22?

thanks,

I'm using a Streamlight TLR-1s. It has an aluminum black anodized body, is very compact and the s model has a strobe function. It's extremely bright (160 lumens) and uses C4 LED technology. It's a great weapon light and can be had for a street price of around $100.

I use a 100 lumen LED maglite in a $10 offset 1" flashlight mount. Total cost was $40, its extremely bright, and holds up to the recoil of my 5.56. It is a great affordable solution if you ask me.

When buying a mount for the light, are they mostly universal or is it a diameter issue?

+1 on the TLR models. I really liked my insight procyon push button mounting, but it didn't fit snug on the 15-22 rails. The thumbscrew on the TLR lights would solve that issue.

There are many different sizes, especially with the cheapo flashlights. You also need to make sure the light can slide into the mount if the mount isn't a two-piece. I had a fenix that had the anti rollover "shelf" machined into it and the slide-on one-piece mounts wouldn't work with it. If the manufacturer doesn't give the tube size, buy from someone else. They do sell shims if your combo doesn't work though..

Surefire G2 LED on a Gear Sector rail mount. I've added a SF flip-out blue filter for lens protection, and to subdue the beam a bit when needed (no, I'm not chasing blood trails!).

I have a couple of other SF torches (C2 and E1B) but the nitrolon (polymer) body of the G2 makes it lower in weight to hang off the end of the rail.

The Gear Sector piece is a dedicated mount for the G2 (as the nitrolon body is slightly wider than other Surefires), but they also do a mount for the metal bodies (6P etc.). GS ain't cheap, but build quality is top-notch and holds solid as a rock!

Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Since I'm a newbie to the forum world, can anyone tell me how in the world do you post pictures?

i have a a surefire M952XM07 on mine its like $457 but then again mine was given to me in afghanistan and so it was free for me it works nicely on it.

I got a cheap $40 light with pressure switch from MidwayUSA. It works for the purpose intended and fits perfectly.

Re: pictures... I host mine on Photobucket (free - I'm sure there are plenty of other such sites) and just paste the HTML link for the pic into the image link box of the advanced options section for writing a post.

I find that the AFG puts my thumb in the perfect position to push the momentary button on the back of my Surefire (mounted at 10 o'clock looking down the rail). Cheaper than a pressure switch!

Picked up a cheap light (it's just a flashlight right?) with a pressure switch from the gun show. Pressure switch broke in 2 weeks. Mount is loose and doesn't line up well.

Buy cheap... buy twice. I'll be looking at TLR-1 now.
