I recently picked up a new M&P 15 MOE and had a chance to run to the range today for an hour. Just wanted to report that I ran Wolf 55gr, PMC Bronze, and Remington UMC all with no problems. The fit and finish on the rifle was very nice and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. In the future I will continue to feed it a dose of different ammo but am really happy that it takes Wolf with no problems now.

Thanks for the report and glad to hear there is another satisfied steel case ammo shooter. :) I use it all the time for practice.

Just a thought. In an AR15 chambered for 5.56 steel cased ammo may be less problematic than a tighter chambered .223 only weapon.

AKs have no trouble with steel jacketed rounds because they have relatively loose tolerances and much more extractor area than ARs. Using .223 in the marginally larger .556 weapon's chamber is probably safer than using a steel cased .556 round in the same chamber. I think most problems occur with rapid fire when the components are really hot. Brass has the advantage of heat dissapation over steel and the softer alloy is easier on extractors.

My M&P15 barrel has a 5.56 stamp on it, but when I bought it, the box said .223 for the caliber description. Am I okay to use 5.56 NATO because my barrel has a 5.56 stamp on it? Thanks.

What is the model designation? S&W makes one that is .223 only but that is clearly on the bbl.

My M&P15T also runs anything you can throw at it. Thousands of rounds now, predominantly Brown Bear and Hornady steel cased training ammo; no problems at all. IMO the chrome lining, the in spec 5.56 chamber combined with the fact that your average M&P15 is a little overgassed makes them really reliable.

Just a observation... there are many AR-15's for which steel cased ammunition is not problematic. I have run an untold amount of the Wolf 5.56mm through my COLT Hbar without any problems at all. It has functioned with complete perfection regardless of the ammunition or magazine used. I have owned and used this rifle since 2003. Maybe the reported issues concerned earlier rifles or those with less consistent manufacture. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.
