I have been trying to find a suitable load for my new Shield. I have shot it on 4 range sessions so far. Each time about 30 to 50 rounds down range. The trigger is smoothing up some or I am starting to get use to it a little more. I really like the way the gun feels in my hand. I have noticed that one load I tried that shoots well in my G19 is 6grs. of Unique pushing a 115 FMJ bullet. This load bulges the base of the case on all of the rounds enough so that I will not reload these cases again. It looks like the case is not supported in the chamber as well as on some of my other 9's. I have not had this happen on any of them. Has anybody else had this happen?

If you're talking about reloads.. I personally will not shoot reloads in any of my pistols. I will say that I've noticed the M&P shield likes 124 gr -147 gr. factory loads better than 115.

Shield Loads

Saw where +p loads should not be used in the 9mm shield due to
the chamber does not give sufficient support.

Are you talking about your Shield or your Glock when it comes to the bulge? The Glock is well known for the "Glock Bulge". I reload "range brass" - once in a while will come across it. It resizes just fine in the FL die - I just reload it and shoot. I loose a good quantity of my brass at the range so that's why I use "range brass" - I have a bunch that I got for about 2 cents a casing - it doesn't hurt so much that way.

If you're talking a bulge out of your Shield - can't address that as I just got mine. 99% of what mine will eat are reloads/cast bullets. Ether 115 gr or 120 ish gr. out of Lee or Lyman molds.

The only other 9mm that I have is a SR9. That too eats 99% reloads from "range brass" and lead cast. I primarily use Bulls Eye or Red Dot - using data from the 3rd edition of Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. I work up my loads as with any load - start at minimum and work up. I'm loading mid-range to a little lower on the loading data (min./max.) and the SR9 cycles just fine without a flaw. I don't like to load "hot" - there's no reason to.

As far as shooting "re-loads" . . . I will not reload for anyone but myself nor would I shoot any reloads done by others. I want to know what I'm putting in my chambers. There is nothing wrong with shooting reloads as long s it is loaded according to the proper load data. Personally, I have no desire to shoot + P ammo. For the type of shooting I do, a good basic round loaded within proper data does the job just fine.

This thread seems to have gotten a little away from my question. To the first reply. All I can say is that if you "ain't reloading you ain't shooting enough". I started in 1968 and I have never broke a gun or any human for that matter. I have come close to wearing out some firearms though.
I didn't say anything about +P ammo and I don't load ammo to +P pressures for range use. It does say in my Shield manual you can shoot +P in it though. Also as far as Glock and bulging cases goes as far as I know it was only in the 40 cals. and they fixed that with the newer gens on guns. None of my Glocks do it. BTW I tried the same load in Winchester brass in my Shield yesterday and it did not bulge the cases at all. I checked and it was only the loads that were loaded in PPC brass that was bulged. So we are good to go. Thanks for the replies.
