Well we had a beautiful 68 degree sunny day here in middle America, great day to shoot. I took several pistols out to throw some lead and here are some findings:

Colt Anaconda 44 mag (new generation) 4”. Great feel to the gun, very smooth trigger and very accurate. I can say even with the rubber grips it’s pretty snappy, wouldn’t want to shoot it all day…

Colt Kodiak 44 mag, 4” with wood grips. Same great feel, balance and accuracy of the Anaconda, but appreciably less snappy. I was very pleasantly surprised at the difference, even with wood grips. I assume it’s the porting and little extra weight in the cylinder.

Ruger Alaskan Toklat 454 Casull/45 Colt. Well, this tank is a real pleasure with full power 45 Colt. Double action is not in the same conversation as the Colt trigger, but the single action was fine. 454 Casull was as advertised; 6 rounds was plenty… I’m hoping for the Colt Anaconda in 45 Colt, but even if it’s 454/45 Colt, I think I’d stick to +p 45 Colt unless really in Grizzly country.

S&W 25-9 45 Colt 4”. An absolute tack driver and a real pleasure to shoot. Smaller frame than the Anaconda and the trigger is super smooth. Single action is almost too light, you better be ready to fire before you touch that trigger.

S&W 625-7 45 Colt 3”. My favorite carry revolver… really the same as the 25-9 in a smaller package. I will say the 25-9 trigger is better double action than the 625. But another really fun 45 Colt shooter. Balance and accuracy are excellent and it carries quite well. I’d love Colt to do a medium frame 45 Colt. The only smaller 45 Colt I’ve seen is the Taurus 450, but I admit I’m hesitant to rely on a Taurus.

Last but not least was my Marlin 1895 Trapper 45-70. I know, it’s not a pistol, but I love it and just want to throw props to that platform. Absolutely zero complaints on the Marlin.

Well, that was today, a great day by all accounts (except my 401 account)…

Happy trigger time!

Glad you had a great shooting day! That's quite a few guns to shoot in one day. I hope you enjoy cleaning also - lol!! :D:D

Marlin's, with the exception of when they were owned and operated by Remington, are great rifles! IMHO they are (in general) more robust and more reliable than their Winchester equivalents. The Winchester's are more highly finished, have nicer bluing jobs and in general are prettier and better fit guns but they have more moving parts and a more complicated design. Don't get me wrong, Winchesters are excellent and I do own some originals, but when competing in S.A.S.S. Cowboy competitions I always grabbed a Marlin 1894-S in .45 Colt. Never had a single issue. Saw a few issues with fellow competitors using Winchester's.
