Re-acquainting with the .41 Magnum

I was introduced to the .41 Remington Magnum when a fellow member of the Coast Guard sold me his Ruger BH chambered in .41 RM because he was not going to be transferred back to Alaska. It took me several years to find a Marlin 1894 carbine to go with it. Then my brother found a customer who was looking to trade his M-57 R&P for a discount on a mattress. In 2009 I paid my brother $400.00 for a near perfect condition M-57, and glad to have it. I owed a local friend some money for some reloaded ammo, and he was happy to take my Ruger BH in trade. No, you couldn't buy the 57 from me, not even for your first born.

S&W 41 Magnums have been limited over the years but they still could be found in various barrel lengths to fit your needs, if you looked hard. ;)

Rim Rock makes a couple .411" cast bullets for the 41Mag that I particularly like: 230gr L-SWC-GC & the 240gr L-SWC-FB

Sure hope you can get some pictures on here of your 657.
My dad carried a model 58 as a duty gun back in the early 1970's and taught us boys how to shoot it.
That started the love affair with the 41 magnums for me. When I turned 21, I bought a model 57.
Then I got another, and another, and so on. I have acquired over the years a few different 41 magnum guns.
I have S&W 57's and 58's, a Ruger, Taurus, Freedom Arms, plus some lever actions from Marlin and Henry. But my favorite is the 58.

Thanks to all who responded. Giving a nod to them all, will comment that I'm sorry I don't know how to link a photograph to this forum as I don't have them on a website (url). This .41 will likely put me back into reloading which I had gotten away from decades ago. The community/agency really didn't acknowledge this officer adequately. I have written a fairly detailed account of the incident in a folder somewhere but too lengthy to post here. I will say, the outlaw took 10 rounds as I recall from both officers and was still trying to run his .32 caliber revolver until the friend who had this revolver from the ground, sent four silvertips upward and through the middle of the boiler room. Due to drugs, alcohol, and maybe adrenaline, he just wouldn't go down. What wasn't known to the two officers, when the other officer who was being shot in the direction of returned fire, he empty the cylinder of his .41, one those rounds, had struck the outlaws revolver rendering both his revolver as well as his trigger finger. But he kept lifting it trying to run it until he checked out. If I get to reloading, I will for sure hit some of you up for current loading suggestions.

Uploading photos is easy. I first drag my photos from the Photos file onto my computer desktop.
Then scroll down below the text block here on the Forum, and you'll see "Attach Files", and "Manage Attachments". Click on Manage Attachments and a window will pop up. Browse, find the pictures you want on your desktop, open the pics, and then Upload on the Manage Attachments pop up window. When you "Preview Post", your text and photos will appear and allow you to edit, or add more stuff. Then you can "Submit Reply".

Welcome to the forum! The .41 Magnum is one of my favorites.

While I put a 657 3" in use in my fiction novels, I actually don't own one, and only got a .41 earlier this year, a 57 4".

You need to get yourself a 657 3", they are a hoot! I carry mine in a Milt Sparks PMK. One at a time though.

And this 657-2 Classic Hunter is nice as well.

They don't come up for sale very often. I'm trying to be patient, but when guys out there bid them up to $2k I'm out at that price.

Lemme know if you want to trade one off...

I picked up the top 657 from an estate sale. Though it had no box or documents, it was pristine. This was 2017 and it was $800 IIRC. The bottom one came without combat stocks and I picked it up online a little earlier for ~ $700. It had an issue so sent it to S&W...they slicked it up, added an overtravel stop to the trigger, etc.

I have two so that I can gift one to my son when he is older.

$2,000 is insane.

Holy ****

Here is my 41 mag, not the only but the favorite!

There were 4 of these produced. I know where 3 of them are but the fourth is still out there waiting for someone to find it!

That is absolutely gorgeous. Any idea why they made so few of these? Long barrel revolvers are always interesting, and seem under appreciated. With only 4 ever made, I don't know if I would be able to bring myself to shoot it, but I would definitely be happy with being able to look at it all the time.
