I had to throw out another nice Mag-Lite flashlight that was ruined because those Duracell batteries keep corroding. Does anyone know if EverLast batteries are better and less likely to corrode? Or, is there a good quality re-charge battery flashlight worth trying?

I have a few damaged mag lites from leaking batteries. I currently have a rechargeable streamlight strion. I'm sure it has paid for itself by not buying batteries over the past 5 years

Yikes! That's more than I would pay for a flashlight used around the house. I'd look for a flashlight that uses the 18650 3.7v Li-Ion battery (or similar). You can often get them off Ebay and Amazon for less than $20-$30 with a charger.

You could also just get a Tactical Light and use the often included push button rear cap. Mine is 1000lm and came with a battery, charger and remote switch. With a Picatinny barrel mount, I think I put ~$35 into the whole set up.

Fenix flashlights are worth the $$ I have several and they have a good throw and brightness when you want to see what's "out there".

Good quality? yes.

Rechargeable is about all I use anymore.

I have a couple USA made by Malkoff.

Larger of the two is an MD2. Operates sub-lumen to 400 lumens with an 18650 rechargeable.

The other is a MDC HA 1AA. Operates sub-lumen to 115 lumens on a AA rechargeable.

My EDC is a Surefire Titan Plus. Made in ????? Operates 15 to 300 lumens on a AAA rechargeable.

I remember when big Maglites first became popular in the early 1980s, I thought they were so bright and just had to have one so I bought a 3 D cell and put Duracell batteries in it. About six months later the batteries had corroded and ruined the flashlight so I boxed it up and sent it to Duracell explaining what had happened. I get a package back in a week with 8 D cell Duracell batteries, a check for $35 dollars, and a full one page apology letter. You could buy a new Maglite for about 20 bucks back then so I was pretty impressed and I still buy Duracells to this day.

Yes, there are plenty of rechargeable lights now that work great. Plus they are small and light.
Unless you need a club, the days of the big Mag lights are behind us.
I got this one a few years ago off of EBay for $30 with both chargers and it's never quit on me and holds a charge forever, it seems. I've had it probably 4+ years and have only charged it 3 maybe 4 times. It didn't really need the charge either, I just wanted to top it off.
The brand name is Sadina, I'm sure Japan or China. It's a Cree type light.

The only batteries I've had leakage problems with (2 or 3 ruined flashlights) are Ray-O-Vac. I'd stay away from them, too. I think all alkaline batteries will eventually leak. Some just leak sooner than others. The only solution is to regularly inspect items that have batteries that aren't used much.

I've been using this (and one other) Fenix brand PD32 LED flashlight for several years, including some abuse on third shift when I was still working.
Uses (2) rechargeable RCR123a lithiums, a single #18650 lithium re-chargeable, or standard, non-rechargeable CR123 lithiums.
Very bright, high quality flashlight. Lifetime warranty.

Street price is around $60

Best one I ever had was a Sanyo NiCd rechargeable I had in Vietnam in 1970. Helped me dodge cobras all night long.

Still looking for another one.

:D Funny, I'm still in that mode, from the good old days…two fold club/flashlight.

Thanks everyone…good ideas.
I still have a big Mag light. Had 2 but guess what? The batteries leaked and ruined it.
I will keep it bedside until it dies. I collect flashlights almost as much as knives and guns.

I purchased a coast brand rechargeable about a year ago, it has been outstanding. It came with 2 rechargeable batteries and one that takes AA batteries.

I have two Maglite 2-AA LEDs, a 2-D LED, and a 3-D LED. I generally buy cheap generic alkaline batteries and replace the batteries at least once or twice a year, just because. In fact I replaced the AA cells in both the small lights today because I could not remember the last time I put fresh batteries in. I think I'll do the same for the D-cell lights right now.

Tough to beat the no-name Chinese 18650 models. You can get a hand-size flashlight that will (lightwise) beat the pants off a 5-D cell Maglite, for $10 or less.

I have all kinds of mag lites, have lost a couple to leaking battery
I use flash lights every day, was carrying the AA mag lite, then
went to Pelican, with the 3v batteries. They are expensive and
don't last. Then I found a rechargeable Stream Light laying on
a post at a rest stop. I didn't have a charger so I offered to give
it to a LEO. After bawling me out for being cheap, he told me to
buy a charger for it. He even ordered it for me from aPolice supply, $30. 110v AC with a 12v DC adapter. That was over 5
years ago, use it every day. It puts a 3 cell mag lite to shame.
I think a new one is $100+. I would have never spent that much
on a flash lite, but if something happens to this one, I wouldn't
hesitate to buy another. You will get it back in battery cost. I
guess if you don't use one in your everyday work, it may not pay
you to put that much in a lite.
