A jerk (it really was not me) put a small idiot scratch on my 108299 where the slide stop goes into the frame.
Any idea how I can cover it up?
Thanks.

An industrial permanent ink Sharpie marker works OK.

Need to re-do it after a couple of cleanings, but it makes it less noticeable. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

The best solution is to shoot the daylights out of your 1911, carry it constantly, let it get all sorts of marks all over it, then your pistol will have "character," and you will never notice the "idiot scratch." :)

Those idiot marks are so common that you probably can't find a used 1911 without them. I've even resorted to covering that section of the frame with masking tape when reassembling mine.

Indeed! I'm an experienced and very capable smith of my own guns. I never field strip - I always fully detail strip. So, such dexterity is not an issue.

All that being said, when I put the slide lock back in my Dan Wesson Valor, I always stick a thick business card into the gap as I start to press it in. It's just far too easy to slip and the rest is history. But, on some of my beat-up shooters, I don't worry about such precautions. But they're also so very broken in that the parts no where to go on their own now.

I use a sharpie marker on mine phils and it really looks good for awhile. Mine is six years old now and shows alot of wear. I going to sent it to S&W and let them do there magic this summer.

Anybody have a good fix for the Idiot Marks on a Smith auto at the rear of the slide from the ejector ?
