I have a birth year (1947) M&P that I would like to have re-nickeled. Smith and Wesson will not re-nickel a gun that old. I would like some recommendations re; who to contact that can do a nice re-nickel finish on my revolver. Thank you in advance for any comments or recommendations:)

I didn't know they did any job plating (outside work) but there may be a good reason for it. Plating metal parts can cause what's known as hydrogen embrittlement ( loss of ductility). Some metals are more susceptible than others but without knowing exactly what the metal composition is, it can be very dangerous for parts that are routinely placed under stress. Make it point to ask any plater you choose it he does any post-plating processes for "embrittlement relief".

Disclaimer: I don't plate firearms but have many years of plating experience on antique auto parts including nickel, copper, brass, zinc and tin. And while I have been paid for this work, I don't consider myself a "professional plater". It was done primarily to support antique car hobbyists in getting small batch plating work done.

Eye of the Beholder

I've seen a few old revolvers re-nickeled with a glossy, "pimp" finish and I wasn't impressed. However, a brushed nickel finish would look very nice.

The reason is , if parts are lost or broken, they would not be able to replace them. Colt is the same.
