i took a friend of my son tonight to assist him with the basic components of his first reloading station...right now he will reload for 44 mag.and 460 mag.found the rcbs master reloader kit and a tumbler/media....no rcbs dies there...he got a lee die....
he became acutely aware that he needed to do this when we spotted a box of 20 400 gr.460 mag.ammo..$99.00...yep...with tax $104.00 dollars...thats over 5 bucks per trigger pull...geeezzzzz....
anyway...three store later...we only found "match grade"primers...$5.00 per hundread...obviously i told him to pass...460 bullets?Nope...none to be found...44 mag.die..none in the three stores we were at...we did find some powder...i even found a cpl.pounds of imr 4198 that i have been looking for....
ok so....a fair amount of cash outlay for him tonight...and still cannot reload

Kenny,
There weren't ANY .451 or .452" bullets?

The bullet diameter is the same as the 45ACP and there weren't any available for that caliber?

I can tell you what I have done to get hunting bullets to "fool around" with. I bought muzzle loader sabots and used the bullets from them. Most of them are for a 50 caliber and use .451" bullets.

Here is a picture of just such an endeavor:

with him...thanks for the info.!
andy...so true...i have a lee pot and i am slowly gathering the rest...time to cut costs further...
thus far i have been one of the lucky ones no huge problem locating primers, powder, etc.yesterday was just not a good shopping day...
i will say the $99.00 for 20 rounds of 460 mag.corbon was an eye opener..as i reload i dont keep up as well with factory ammo prices as i should...well...time for more shopping...its fun helping someone else get into the reloading game

I wonder who was selling .460 CorBon ammo for $99. Sounds like an extreme rip off.

I just checked CorBon's website. Their 360gr hard cast ammo was selling for under $58 a box. Still insane but sure better than $99.

Reloading is the ONLY way to fly with calibers like the .460 and .500 Mags. Don

I'm actually thinking about making bullets these days! Like I have time for more of this stuff!!!

Ugh!

Try giving LEADHEAD BULLETS a call. For the 460, make sure you use the Gas Checked bullets. The high velocities of the 460 require the gas check. I use their bullets for my S&W 500 and am extreamly happy. They make bullets for Corbon. The last time I priced cartridges for the 500 was a couple years ago. They were $50 per 20. That same day I placed orders for the dies and such. I paid $126 for 500 bullets for the S&W500 440 grain gass checked for $126. Total aproximate cost toload is about $340 per 1000. That comes to $.34 each or $6.80 per box of 20. I am sure that the price of ammo is much more these days than $50 per box. Good luck
