My new 686 has a pin in the rebound slide spring. Question is I know S&W used as an trigger over travel stop in some. Should I leave in, or take out?
Also anyone used NEC moly to lube spring. Its the dry moly used to lube rifle cartridge necks for reloading. It is so fine and slippery it don't come off the spring after rolling and tapping any excess off. You can feel it on your fingers but barely see it on the spring. It seems to cut down on friction between the cavity in the rebound slide and the outer edges of the spring windings.

Brazer, It seems S&W installed them in some rebound slides in the thinking that the 'pin' will cut down on spring compression side flex and thus friction inside the rebound spring hole during compression. If you know sufficient smithing to prep the hole to smooth any possible casting marks inside, it's not necessary although some users like them.

The pin is a trigger stop, nothing more. The idea that it serves as a guide for the rebound spring is a myth! There is more clearance between the spring and trigger stop than there is between the outside of the spring and the rebound slide bore.

+1

I fit them and like them in my DAO modded revolvers. On a SA/DA revolver they're a compromise. Cut it the right length for SA and it does little for DA. Cut it for DA and you're DAO. The trigger won't move rearward enough for the SA sears to engage.
