(GunReports.com) -- During an internal technical review, Smith & Wesson determined that some of the sears used on Venture rifles produced from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011, may not have been manufactured to specification. Because the sear is an important part of the firing mechanism, the company is asking that all of the rifles produced during this time period be returned to Smith & Wesson so that the firearm can be inspected by our technicians to ensure that the rifle operates in a safe and appropriate manner.

This recall applies only to Venture rifles manufactured from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011. To determine if your rifle is affected, please reference the serial number list located at TCA Venture Safety Recall - Smith & Wesson or by calling Smith & Wesson directly at 1-800-713-0356. If your serial number does not fall within the list of affected serial numbers, your rifle is not part of this recall.

Smith & Wesson requests ask that owners of these products stop using the rifles until the company has an opportunity to inspect the sear. Please contact Smith & Wesson's customer service department to receive instructions and a prepaid return label for the return of your rifle to Smith & Wesson.

When you return your rifle to Smith & Wesson, be sure to attach the completed information card received from Smith & Wesson, so that your sear can be inspected and repaired, and returned to you as quickly and efficiently as possible.

When your rifle sear is returned, you should note a punch dot on the trigger assembly. This punch dot is confirmation that your sear has been inspected and the hazard has not been found or has been corrected.

I'm interested in the Thompson/Center's Venture in 30-06 Springfield.

Is there anyone out there who is owns one and can tell me about it?

i have a venture in .270 and with nosler 140 grain ibt reloads im shooting .80 inches at 100 yards. with hornady superformance i shoot about 1.2 at 100 yards. smooth bolt operation, light enough to treck all day. good gun. never had mine go off by itself, usually these recalls are the result of improper gun handling.

How is the trigger?? These are some nice looking rifles, and it sounds like it's a great shooter for a hunting gun.

not trying to be a smart alec at all but good enough to shoot sub MOA with handloads at 100 yards :D its a hunting rifle, the trigger is sufficient. dont really know what to say. think mine breaks right at 3lbs if i remember correctly.

Right on; there are more than a few rifles out there that have kinda lousy triggers.

I guess they have expanded this list because my Venture used to not be on the list, now it is. I tried to fill in the application for a shipping label but it kept putting my Serial # in the space above the place indicated, and when I hit submit, it said all spaces must by filled in. Tried about three times until I got tried of typing the same info over and over then I called the 800 number (about 2:30PM) and was told the call could not go through at this time. That happened twice! Frustrating!!!:(
Then there is another problem, I kept the box the rifle came in but it won't fit in the box now with the scope on it. I would hate to have to take the scope off, then remounting, and sighting it in again, just so I can use the box for shipping. Anyone know where I can get a shipping box to accomodate the rifle and scope securily? What a pain in the ***!!
Glad I got my old Savage 110 30-06 as a back up.

Do yourself a favor and take the scope off. If it gets bounced in transit, it will STILL need to be sighted back in.
In a worst case scenario, if you remove it you will need 2-3 rounds to get it back onto a hot zero. If it gets the rough treatment via shipping, it might go in the trashcan......

I called, they sent me a FedEx shipping label By email. He also said remove all scopes and other things I have may added after I bought the gun, they just want the gun. They said if you have the box it come in, send the rifle in the box. I will still put it in a nother shipping box. He said it will take 7 to 10 days for it to be look at or repaired. Hope this helps..

I took the rifle and scope back to Bass Pro where I bought it. They took the scope off leaving the base mounts, I put it in the original box, got free shipping label from S & W and sent it in for recall repairs. Mailed on 12/13/11 returned 12/19/11. Very fast turn around. Now I gotta take it back to B. P. for a re-mount and re-zero hopefully on their rifle range. Pain in the *** but I love the rifle and Nikon Monarch scope so I guess it's worth it.
Now all I gotta do is get in and out of B. P. without spending any more money! Lots of luck with that!!!

Recieved my notice Monday in the mail, went on line and filled out form to recieve pre paid package information to send rifle in. Wondering how long before I will get the prepaid package info.? Also I called S&W yesterday and took over an hour to get someone on the phone to talk with, and was told that it might take up to 3-4 wks before even getting to my rifle for repair once they recieve it. This is our first rifle with S&W and I just have some uneasy feelings about this whole thing. Are these really getting any fix or are they just looking at them do to not really knowing which rifles might be bad, just a bit uneasy with this. Thanks

Well sorry to say that I just could not get easy with this recall and had to many uneasy feelings, so I traded my sons Venture in for a Tikka t3. Sorry TC just could not trust the gun even if repaired with knowing my young son will be handling the rifle.
