My Oakleys that I bought when I first joined the army have finally failed me, mostly thanks to a dog that likes to chew. So it's time for a new pair of boots.

I want something light. Non-steel toe. Waterproof would be awesome, but not required. I'm not looking for a "work boot", but rather a boot I could go run a few miles in if necessary.

Suggestions from anyone?

My stock reply would be something from Red Wing, as I have had excellent wear and comfort out of a couple pair of those. But my best answer now would be a pair of Keens. They have a lot of styles, many of them waterproof.

I have a pair I found on sale at GM about six years ago, and I have just about lived in them since then, summer and winter. They give good support (or did for the first five years or so) and are dry and warm enough that I almost never have to break out my big Rocky pacs. They are finally starting to need some Shoe Goo on the heels, so I will soon be looking for another pair.

They make some nice waterproof sandals, too.

I have a pair of the Red Wing Foreman Chukka's, from back when they were calf belly leather lined, and I wore them for work, dress with a sport coat, or in the field shooting sporting clay's. Unfortunately they don't have the lining any longer. I currently have Johnson Murphy chukka's, and they are water resistant, leather lined, very comfortable, go from dress to field equally well. Not a work boot, but a really rugged dress boot.

I second the good reports on the redwing boots, have had many and got good service out of them. I bought a pair of 10 inch Danner quarry logger safey toe boots, and did not get as long a service life from them, letaher toe wore through, and eyelets needed replaced due to wear from the laces wearing through the brass and cutting the laces, but were very comfortable boots. I am very hard on boots heavy equipment operator/truck driver/ farm mechanic.

I've worn several brands over the years, the most comfortable boots and shoes were Carolina Comforts.

I wear a Lowa Zephyr boot. It's the kind of boot that you can put on and it feels broken in and pliable right away. Great everyday boot for me. It's very light as well, which is extremely important in an everyday boot to me. Most all leather boots I've tried weigh twice as much, but these feel like an athletic shoe, but with ankle support and goretex.

Haven't tried alot of others, but these work well for me.

Belleville Boots - Home

I work as a security guard in the city of Colorado Springs. I work on the East side of town at a facility which is mostly undeveloped.

I spend the vast majority of my day on my feet up and down hills, over rocks, in all types of weather
and I’m willing to pay for good boots. I wear Belleville 700 “duty” boots because I haven’t found anything else as durable and comfortable that’s made in America and that’s about the only thing that I’m “brand loyal” to, I even bought a pair of their ACU boots for hiking.

Last year I put right around 1880 miles on my boots (according to my pedometer) and they held up to it with only a resoling and as I mentioned above they are American made and that is important to me

Check the Military Boots. Soldiers and Marines live in Them day in and day out.

I've always had good luck with Merrells. Top quality and fit. I'm on my 3rd pair of the waterproof "high-tops". Great for casual, hiking, hunting, etc:)

Salomon XA Pro...I like the speed laces too!
