I have looked at a bunch of posts on upgraded triggers, looking at Geissele and CMC for my M&P 15MOE. But leaning towards CMC drop in. Most of the threads were concerning the 3.5 lbs pulls and they were for the 15-22. My questions is what weight is the recommended one or most used and why. They come in 3.5,4.5,5.5 etc. Whats the difference other than the weight?

Probably will help to get an basic understanding of single and two stage triggers.

Generally speaking, a two stage trigger will help with slow precision work. Single has advantages for quicker point and shoot.

Generally speaking, a heavier trigger is helpful for field work (not fire by mistake while operating/moving with a gun). Lighter is better for slower precision work.

My AR isn't for precision paper punching. I prefer single stage but a bit lighter than a typical service gun. I got a 4lb single Wilson TTU.

You're bound to get a lot of different advice. Good hunting.

To get a really crisp, creep free, light weight, single stage trigger in the AR, you risk safety. The AR is a gun designed to be carried with a round in the chamber and the safety on. The safety only blocks trigger movement. Thus, if the sear engagement is cut down to a point where the creep is almost non-existent, it could be unsafe.

Now, if you only use the gun as a bench rest rifle, it's a non-issue. However, if you're going to be running and gunning, a two stage is almost necessary.

Service rifle match rules require a 4.5 pound minimum pull. Two stage triggers are usually preferred because of the lighter second stage. You can shoot pretty good rapid fire scores once you get used to the two stage pull because of the short reset and what feels like a much lighter pull.

All my bolt guns are adjusted to about 3 lbs, so I prefer a AR trigger with the same weight second stage pull, even if the total pull may be 4.5-5.5 lbs.

I went with the Geissele SSA in my M&P15 MOE and couldn't be happier. My gun is used in a HD role and the trigger pull is so smooth without being too light.

Occasionally Primary Arms puts Geissele triggers on sale for 10-15% off.

So would a 4.5 lbs pull be the average/best choice that most folks have for a GP/Range/HD/SHTF gun?

As to the CMC AR drop in, It seems the majority of the folks (average users, not high precision folks or the 24.7 million former SF operators/sniper ninjas that float around the net) that use my LGS like that one. But there is a little variation in the chosen pull wt. The Geisele is a great trigger I keep hearing but the additional cost may not be worth it for the normal/average shooter. I'm not looking for a adjustable one either, One less thing to worry about.

Any pros/cons on the CMC AR triggers?

I don't know about CMC triggers. I just know that my AR came with a Geisele trigger and I love it. The trigger is amazing!

You have to use the supplied pins with c clips that hang out of the receiver and can mar the receiver. Or some other anti walk pins that secure from the outside of the receiver.

I have a Geissele G2S. It's really smooth. I like it. They can be had for $130 from Lanbo's Armory.

Depends on the design. My Wilson is as creep free and crisp as it gets. However, unlike other AR triggers, the Wilson has a 1911 style half-cock notch. You could beat the rifle against a tree as much as you want, and even if you could get the sear to fail to hold the hammer it's going to get caught by the notch.

I heard the CMC Gen 11 's now come with anti walk/rotation pins in the package with the TG. No more c-clips.

I have CMC's, Gen 11's flat TGs in both my AR platform rifles w/KNS pins.

Both break between 2.7-2.9 lbs. 5-10 minute install time.

Love my ALG ACT but it's simply a polished and coated mil-spec trigger. Very nice. It's not in my M&P because the one that came with the M&P is about the nicest mil-spec trigger I've ever pulled. If I were going to spend a bit more, I'd go CMC. Some of the best I've tried.

I know this is an on/off topic question, but does anyone have experience with the Tac Con triggers? I have thought about getting it more or less for fun, but have heard rumors it is picky as to what lower it is in. I have seen reviews that say it is a decent weight and a clean break, and the idea of a positive reset ability sounds interesting, any feed back?

I'll assume you are referring to the 3MR, with the "3rd" position - there are several threads on this trigger, so you should be able to glean some good info. There are also several videos out there in Utubeville as well.

The short version, (and I have not shot one, full disclosure) is that most have lots of trouble with it. If you want what the 3MR attempts to deliver, I'd suggest just getting a Super Dynamic 3Gun trigger from Geissele
