I didn't want to hi-jack that post about one on a .22, but this .44 has screw holes under the rear sight to mount an optic, but what I've seen so far is you mount a little 2" (approx.) rail on the top then you can put the optic on that. I would only want the little red dot sight, not a scope, for all I use the gun for. Does anyone have info that I can't find to accomplish this? I'm closing in on 64 and I can see the front sight OK, but I think that dot would be more accurate for me. I couldn't find anything 629-specific, but prices go up over $300. Thanks for any suggestions. Jeff

I have used the Allchin. Fit perfect. Make sure you order the model that fits your red dot.

I have two Weig-a-tinny mounts, one on a Ruger Single-10, the other on a S&W 617-6 with a six-inch barrel. Both have red dots, and both hold their zero. I would have no problem putting a Weig-a-tinny on a 629 for target shooting. Use a tiny amount of loc-tite to secure the screws, no matter what brand you choose. I'm 70 and had my lenses replaced because of cataracts. The red dots are easier to see and aim with.

I've have about half a dozen weigand mini rails. What I like about them is that they come in silver and black.

But my 629-6 wears a Raptor mount w/Vortex Venom(3moa).

I like the setup.

Lou_t_w...I think I saw that Venom sight on a search yesterday or so. Is that one of the ones I saw that was about >$300? My head was spinning looking for some manufacturer that said "Hey Jeff, this is the RDS you want to buy!" That looks like it fits good.
I think I saw that Burris Fast Fire III, also.
I suppose maybe this RDS I buy, if I do, it's definitely not something to go cheap on, but for my use I don't think I want to make a car payment amount of cash on. Thanks guys; I have a little better info on where to look.

This year, I tried my hand at a lower priced red dot(turned out to be a green dot) from UTG . The UTG mini red dot I had tried on a pellet gun first. And after my son dropped the pellet gun on its head 3 times and kept on ticking, the thought of putting it on an actual gun gave me the curiosity. I ordered another one to put on a revolver. That one was green.
At $70-80. They're cheap. And UTG already made revolver red dots that were standard on them so I gave it a shot.
Advertised as a 4 dot, its quite similar to a 3 dot in the lower brightness levels. (Moa). Making the 4 dot a good choice for anything into 25yards, which I'm accustomed.

Bolted to a Allchin mount in black. Shown below. I think the Allchin mount was around $45.

It's another choice.

Lou_the_welder, I'm liking the black mount and the set-up you have above this post. A silver-colored mount would probably look out of place on a stainless revolver, as the colors probably would be off slightly. But I already have black sights & rubber handles so keeping that "color" would work. I know it's more about function than a fashion statement, but it seems to work for you, and with the lower price, it would give me an inexpensive try-out; I could always go with a higher-priced sight in the future. I'm thinking higher price would equal higher quality, "options", etc. if I can get used to the dot vs. open sights.
Thanks all for the great help, links, and info.
And Happy New Year...let's pray the vaccine helps next year.
