I'm a wood grip lover and always browse any posts I find that show the custom grips that folks make or buy to enhance their firearm's appearance. I've viewed literally hundreds of grip pictures and never seen or heard of Red Morell. After getting the 1911 shown in these pictures I started to look for a nice pair of grips when I happened across Brian Challis' site and saw a pair that he had made for someone and decided that was exactly what I wanted on my new S&W. Well, I received my set this morning and just had to share their beauty (at least to this beholder's eyes) with liked minded folks who appreciate such things...

The depth of the grain is amazing and the veins look look as if they're crawling out of the wood. I like 'em a lot.

that is nice looking. quite different. do you know the origin of the wood?

A burl from the eucalyptus family? (Native to Australia) Almost like a walnut burl. Very pretty grain indeed. Notice any odor of eucalyptus from the wood?

I didn't smell any eucalyptus at all but that was probably due to the "processing" of the wood...by the time I had received the grips they were already finished and covered up any natural odor.
