Refurbished a Buddy's M1 Carbine

I wish some outfit would chamber one of these in .357 Magnum. Maybe the rimmed case would be the problem....

Great Job! Looks Awesome.

I have seen only one carbine which was completely WWII-original, and it was a Saginaw. A friend bought it at an estate sale for $200 about 10 years ago, had no idea what a treasure he got. Almost all Carbines were rebuilt and upgraded after WWII and matching parts sources was not a priority. My carbine is a combination of components from everywhere. I bought it a long time ago from an ex-GI who brought it home with him sometime after the Korean War. But it was pure GI and hadn't been Bubba'd.

I too feel that "mooronic soldier" might not be quite fair. How about "scared silly once the lead started flying" soldier? Never been in combat, but I bet that description might very well apply to me if I were!!

Also, I definitely would put a type 3 band (the one with the bayonet lug) unless I were specifically going for a 100% true reproduction. Most carbines shoot better with that type as it locks the barrel down firmer. Mine certainly did. At one point I replaced mine to comply with one of New York's idiot assault weapon laws. I ended up going back to a type 3 with the actual little bayonet nub ground off.
