reloading 10mm for S&Wsemi auto

In the realm of reloading, there is no such thing as the best powder for most applications. There are well over 150 powders on the market today and they all work in something. To answer your question, I'd look hard at BlueDot. I use it in my 10mm's and the data is very consistent from source to source. It works with all bullet weights and is readily available. I meters well in a measure also. Bob!

Lots of good ones. It depends on what type of load you want, the bullet weight and type, and whether you want current 10mm load levels or something approximating the older, legendary Norma ones. The 1006 likes those, especially if you up the slide spring a few pounds.

AA#9 and Power Pistol gives top performance in some heavier jacketed bullet loads, both my favorite go-to 10mm powders, and Blue Dot is lots of fun for others. For more moderate loads and lighter bullets (180 and less), AA#7 is a classic and often gives superb accuracy at good power levels. If I had to pick one, Power Pistol would be my favorite for a wide range of applications.

Brian Pearce had a good article on more standard 10mm loads in Handloader #253 for a Kimber 10mm. Highly recommended!

I'm not a big fan of Blue Dot (long-standing prejudice after some bad experiences 20 years ago) so I tried Hodgdon's Longshot, and think it might be the best powder for most bullet weights. VERY impressive velocities, and it meters well. Power Pistol is another favorite, but perhaps not as flexible.

I like Blue Dot and 2400, with 180 grain bullets in my Kimber 10mm Auto.

I tried Blue Dot in my Glock 10mm and it worked fine but I pretty much only use Longshot now and load either 180 gr Hornady HAPs or XTPs.
It meters great and works well from light to heavier loads.

I chrony my loads at about 1175 from a short barreled Glock. This is more than enough for defense and also deer and hogs. You know you are shooting a 10mm but it does not beat you or the gun up.

HS6, AA7, and AA9. I used to use Blue Dot but changed away from it because the other powders meter more uniformly. If I had to pick one, it would be HS6. I am more interested in accuracy than velocity.

I'm using HS6 with good results, pretty clean (especially compared to the 700X I used to use). 8.2 grains pushing a 180 gr bullet. Around 1050 FPS.

Works well for IPSC, no feeding problems and the weapon is fairly clean. I'm going to step down to 155 gr bullets and up to 10.4 grains of HS6.

I shoot one powder for simplicity's sake, I like being able to set things up once and load a big batch of bullets at once.

Use power pistol in mine but blue dot is a favorite of 10mm guys. Have gotten some stout velocity with P.P.

That change will just get you more recoil, more muzzle flip, and more noise.

I have used Blue Dot for many loading in my S&W10xx pistols since 1990 but I have recently tested other powders AA#7 & #9, Power Pistol, LongShot & IMR800X.

Blue Dot has made 1180-1200 fps with the 200 Hornady XTP with great accuracy and clean burning.

I have copied the Swamp Fox Ammo which was done with LongShot and yielding 1250 fps with a 200 Hornady XTP.

The 800X has been very good if you will take time to hand weigh the powder charge. Also 1250 fps with the 200 Hornady XTP.

I did manage 1200 fps with Power Pistol with 200 Hornady XTP.

Got close to 1200 fps with AA#9 also...

I continue to use Blue Dot with my cast bullets because of the accuracy & performance I get. If I could only have one powder it would be Blue Dot, which has worked well in 10mm, 40S&W, 357Sig, 9x25Dillon, 357Mag, 38Spl, 44Mag, 44Spl, 9mm, 12 Ga, and reduced rifle loads for 30-30 & 30'06.

Really?

That change will just get you more recoil, more muzzle flip, and more noise.
I figured the energy was pretty similar so the recoil should be similar too wouldn't it?

I can see a more noise and flash at night with the heavier powder load.

Oh well, we'll see what it does on the range. I only bought a thousand bullets

800x. other powders work well too but .....800x is a perfect match for the 10mm.

Except you MUST hand weigh each charge, it meters like corn flakes. I have tried many powders, BD was a standard since the 10mm first came out. Today w/ have better. Longshot works very well, meters great & good vel w/ good accuracy. I also like the old HS7 & AA#7 for full power loads. For midrange, Unique & WSF are good performers.
