I bought this on a Police Letter order in 1978. Back then they were trying a new way of bluing the guns by doing the cylinders and barrels separate from the rest of the gun and it turned out that they came out two toned as did this one. I sent it back on a complaint and Mr. Magoo must have been the tech as he buffed the poor barrel lettering to death. While it was in, I had the combat trigger put on it and an action job done. Also had my initials, LGH, engraved in English scroll. While I was disappointed with the buffing and actually the engraving, I was pleased with the action job. It is one of my best shooting 29s. I left Detroit PD shortly thereafter for another department, so the gun never got used much on duty.
I recently found a few loose, original 1950-60s, 44 Magnum Lubaloy rounds in my stash and wanted to see how Elmer Keith felt shooting his Magnum loads in his 4 inchers. I must say that they were pretty snappy compared to the Remington mid-range loads I used to carry or my reloads.
