The year was 1981.
The producers asked for permission to film at Beale AFB, California. Permission was granted. The only stipulation was that some of us airmen were to be used as extras and be paid for it.
I was an extra on the set while filming the first episode. Almost all of us that participated were extremely excited because we had never seen a movie set let alone a movie star. Well, he wasn’t much of a star then.
Craig T. Nelson was a jerk. He walked out of his trailer right past me. I said “HI!”. He kept walking. Never even acknowledged me.
After the first day of filming they told us to come back two days later after filming was complete so we could get paid.
They packed up and left. Never heard from them again. It was only $50. But back then $50 was a lot of money. And I was cut out of the first episode.
I eventually got over it and watched the entire series. I really liked it. But karma struck and it was canceled after the first season.
