Today it is my sad but honored duty to help lay David Mewcomb to rest. He enjoyed 87 wonderful years and I had the privilege of calling him my friend the last 35 of them. He worked 42 years for Coke Cole supporting his wife and 5 sones. The last 20 years he got to spend more time with his hobby which was turning a piece of leather into a useful piece of art. Over 200 members of this forum have a holster, belt or other leather items made by David. If you have seen his work you know the quality and beauty of what his talented hands could do.

In all the years that I knew him I never saw him stressed out or down on anyone. He always had a happy positive attitude, even in these last few weeks. The world has lost another good, honest, self-sufficient man who took care of his family and friends. He will be missed!

At the funeral home there is a display of his work and a few letters from some of you guys who took the time to write and let him know that you appreciated what he had made for you. He really enjoyed the cards and letters you sent and kept every one of them. His family thanks you.

On days like this we take comfort in the words of II Cor. 5:4 "mortality is swallowed by Life!" Its great to know that when life here ends, real life begins. Blessings everyone, Paul - Campbellsville KY

It is sad to hear this news. I have several of Dave's holsters and are my favorite field holster.
God bless Dave Newcomb and his family.

RIP David, and thank you Paul for posting this. I have several of David's holsters and they are really beautiful. Last spoke with him many years ago but clearly remember him as a gentleman and an interesting fella.
I'll hold on to these a little more dearly now.

RIP David. I've got several of his holsters and a few of his knives and they are all treasured. I enjoyed meeting David at the Cave City Gun Show several years ago. Paul, you were a true friend to David and I'm very sorry for your loss.

Here are a few pics I have on Photobucket. The holsters are lambswool lined and it's like carrying your gun in a rig rag. Paul told me that David would find interesting things in his woods walks and would use them to make knives.

I'm sorry to bring this sad news to the top, but was just running a search for Mr. Newcomb's contact info (for someone on another forum) and found it. May he rest in peace. My belated condolences on your loss, Newfyman. :(
