I don't currently own both but have. I kept the 870. It's a classic and fits me better.

Besides, a supernova is a gargantuan, humongous, insanely large explosion.

I'm a fan of Benelli semi autos, and I'm sure their pump action is good too (don't own one...). That being said, the 870 is really a no-brainier. It's a tried and true design, slick action, fair price/good value and it just works, and works, and works, and.... You can also get it in many configurations, from tactical to field gun to sporting to really fancy. And, oh yeah, it's made in USA.

My vote is the 870.

Slap simple...870. Better gun, better design, better resale, better accessories.

870 all the way!!!

The 870 is the standard by which all others are compared, when it comes to working guns. The Super Nova is light, fast, and very comfortable to shoot. I can't think of a con for either, so it's a toss of the coin. The one thing I can say, if I'm setting in a cold, wet duck blind at the butt crack of dawn, I'd take the Super Nova. Decoys, blind, and my lunch are heavy enough.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Good Luck and good shooting.

I have both. For home defense, basic shotgun needs and go all the way 100% fighting gun - grab the 870. Great gun, great value, dependable, tons of things you can do to it and with it. You can slap a long barrel on it for bird hunting if you wish, or a short one for defense.

For strictly bird hunting - grab the Supernova. It'll take the 3" shells if you get into Goose hunting, etc. It's a big gun, lightweight, durable and built for its purpose.
