I am very happy with this Remington model 1875 revolver. It is in 44-40. It is a first model. You can see it of the frontsight. That is the type used on the model 1863. Later models do have a blade frontsight. The condition is very good with a good bore and blanc cilinderchambers. I am not intend to shoot it. It is a part of my collection and a nice piece of American Old West History.
From the model 1875 just about 30.000 are made. Serial number is 65. Nice, but the revolver is build in batches of 1000. No idear wich batch these where in. In the US only the Indian police recieved the Remington model 1875 in .44-40. The revolver is also ordered by Mexico and Egypt. Never expected to own one.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing it.

Were it mine, the urge to obtain some black powder rounds to shoot it would be almost irresistible. Closest I can come is an Uberti clone. I found it to be much more agile and nimble in the hand than it's size would suggest.

Really fine condition survivor.

Thanks again for sharing it.

I found these somewhere in my reloading stuff. Original Baloonheads in .44-40. The cases fit perfectly. But I am not intend to shoot the Remington.

The museum where I volunteer as firearms historian has one. Nickel plated, .45 Colt. It belonged to James Ryan, the first elected sheriff of Crook County, Wyoming. He arrested Harry Longabaugh for stealing a horse, saddle, and rifle. Longabaugh was sentenced to 18 months in the Sundance, Wyoming, jail. Some say that's how the Sundance Kid got his nickname.

That is a handsome revolver. Congratulations on the acquisition.
