Remington Odd Ball... "Police" 7615

I recalled back when Remington introduced these
back around 2005, thought....what a dumb gun.
Competing directly with the AR's.

Pretty much a marketing disaster, and they weren't around
very long.

But looking again in 2019, and the current atmosphere,
it kind of made sense to have one in inventory.

Found one out of a Police department in Virginia, basically
a variation of a 760 and built around a 20gauge 870 shotgun.

Needed some cleaning, copper and carbon stripping TLC,
but cleaned up beautifully.

It handle's like a short barrel shotgun....fast.

Extended the LOP to 14 3/4", my perfect fit for a shotgun.
Pulled off the iron sights and mounted a 1x4 Leupold
Pig-Plex on it.

Fun little project, and I feel a nice little niche filler if you
are a fan of the 223/5.56.

I think they were an attempt at a "PC" rifle for police use, with out the stigma of an "assault rifle".

Problem is more and more jurisdictions seem to be basing a firearms status on magazine capacity, so under this guise, it is still a "Bad" gun because of its 30 round detachable magazines. And its black, too....

Personally, I like the idea and the rifle.

Ditto here in CA. I'm kinda kicking myself on occasion for not getting it.

I've seen a few surplus/ LE trade in's of these on GunBroker. I always thought they were an interesting rifle. Think about how popular these bolt action brush guns are made by Ruger, Mossberg and CZ? Why not have a pump version?! To me that is a faster reload than a bolt gun. The AR mags are a win as well. Seems like a cool rifle to me.

Congrats on finding that one. They rarely show up around here. This is a police trade in one I picked up years ago.

My 7615 had a wood stock from Boyd’s. It easily shot sub MOA
I sold it shortly after finding my grail guns....Rem 760s in 222 and 223

One of our local agencies adopted the 7615 about the time that most other agencies were putting M-4’s in our cruisers. It actually made quite a bit of sense, besides the fact that they weren’t perceived as evil “machine guns”. The main reason this agency adopted them was the transition and training to a patrol rifle was a lot easier as they already had Remington 870’s in the cars. I think the 7615 was actually based on the 20 gauge 870 action. We also had a few agencies go to the Ruger mini 14’s at about the same time and I think the 7615 was actually a better rifle. Remington LE sent me a couple really cool posters of the 7615 that I posted in our range house. They were still up when I retired from that agency in 2015.

Wish I had seen a thread like this when I was following two of these on GunBroker! I think they are cool rifles that serve right along side the Mossberg MVP and Ruger American Ranch series (the 7.62x 39 with mini 30 mag capabilities is a sweet option as well).

Seems like one would make a good dingo buster. Around here we have plenty of coyotes (yotes) and a .223 is ideal for dealing with them when they start to attack livestock like chickens and so on. I’d imagine dingos might attack chickens and ducks, too?

Very cool design introduced 10 years to soon. Look how successful Ruger’s P.C. 9mm is this time around. Using AR-15 magazines makes it a excellent choice with or without AR-15 carbines.

I certainly would like one if it was reintroduced.

I believe they made something very similar in 308 based on the 7600. It was a functional equivalent, but I guess you could say technically it is not the exact same.

I always thought these rifles made a lot of sense with regards to training and functionality.

Believe it was the Model 7600P. A grail gun for me. I always thought the slide action Police Rifle was a great concept. Only know of one Agency around here that used them. Agree that the timing was wrong. At the time, most Patrol Officers wanted AR variants and the slide action rifle was frowned upon. Think they are great and wish I had bought a few of them.
