The Remington R1s list Ilion, NY as place of manufacture.
The carry version is identical to the standard internally, being externally smoothed to reduce catching on clothing.
I don't own either, but shooting the Remington and Ruger left me with the impression of quality production firearms I would be happy to own and shoot regularly. The lightweight commander .45s are snappy and require a strong grip to shoot rapidly without slipping. The 9mms are a complete joy, smooth, mild, and easy to shoot. Nobody has showed up at the range with that particular Kimber, so I can't comment, other than I have seen some minor QC issues with some Kimbers in the last couple of years.
