Remington R51 9MM

Buds has these for $298 and free shipping. Remington has a $100 rebate through Nov 18th. FYI

Anyone have any thoughts on these? I’ve noticed them and with that rebate it seems like a heck of a deal. I’ve heard of reliability issues that may not have been fixed in the new models.

I checked one out today when I was picking up my RM380. It's a nice looking pistol and the quality seems very good. I just couldn't get past that grip safety. If you don't mind that and the Rube Goldberg disassembly it's a good deal for under $200.

When the gun was introduced it was a pa Kate of defects. Remington redesigned it and remade it. Supposedly it is OK now, but I do not have ones and cannot confirm. I have the RM380 and it is a dream EDC gun.

I own the new release and like it a lot.
I've read of mag related issues but have not had those problems myself.
I'd buy one at $300. The $100 rebate makes it a no-brainer.
$200 for an alloy framed, single stack CCW in 9mm is too good to pass up, IMO. The take down and reassembly is different, not difficult. Once you understand it, it's like any other pistol as far as ease of cleaning.

I had a few FTF's at the start but shooting a few hundred rounds seems to have broken it in. No functional issues with it lately. It also gets easier to strip and assemble after break in but I would not say it's as simple to do as a tilting barrel gun like the Glock 43.

Since I have an R51 I don't need another, but I've seen low prices on the RP9 full size and it has the rebate too.

I picked my R51 up Wednesday. I have not shot it yet, just tore it down to look it over and it seems well made. I will have to say that they do not go back together nearly as easy as the Remington video show, but it is not real bad.

I have had a RM380 for quite a while and I think they are a very good pistol, especially for $150 or less.

Any chance I could bother you for a few more thoughts? How does it shoot? Easy to carry? What is the market for holsters?

Sorry for all the questions, but this little all metal single stack intrigues me. I’m really tempted to get it for this steal of a price but the wife will kill me if I buy it and don’t carry/shoot it much. I just weaseled my way into buying a bunch of mags/holsters for my Sig P238 so I could carry it everywhere and have reloads, so I’m gonna have to be really convincing.

I bought the version 1 as soon as it was available. BIG mistake. To their credit, Remington did make it right, full refund including shipping and transfer fee.

Fast forward 18 months or so. I purchased the version 2. The difference is like night and day. I love this gun, perfect for EDC. Easy to conceal, all metal, easy to manipulate the slide, designed for CC.

I have about 800-1000 rounds through it without a single failure. I mean that, not ONE failure of any kind. It is in my EDC rotation.

Well, I just couldn't pass it up.............I have no "need" for another 9mm!! I read all the reviews I could find on line and couldn't find anything bad enough to stop me. Should have it in a week to ten days. I'll get back to you!!

Me either...I gave in after reading more reviews!! I’ll share my thoughts once I get this neat looking compact 9mm.

Does that mean you don't like the 1911s either? Same principle.

I just held one today (didn't buy it, didn't dry fire it.) The grip safety is a lot more "intrusive" than a 1911 - it had a stronger spring and goes in with a noticeable click. A good firm grip should deactivate it, but you feel it more than the grip safety on a 1911. It bothered me, but I think I would get used to it. I do not think I would have to adjust my grip to activate it, I just think it would be irritating for a while.

That is pretty dang cheap. I like the concept so I'm somewhat tempted.

That said, I really can't support the microsubcompact single stack 9mm phenomenon when you can find double stacks that are every bit as small, or in some cases smaller! A Keltec P11 is smaller in every dimension and lighter than the R51 while holding 12+1.

I rented one the day the new issue showed up at my LGS. Had 50% failure to fire. Ammo was not the problem as all went off in a Ruger P85. Shop later said it did "better" after they cleaned it, but still not 100%. I can tolerate failures to feed during a break in period, but not to fire. That said, I may pick one up and play with it at this price as I really appreciate the ergonomics and the reduced perceived recoil resulting from the heavier frame and the Pederson action.

I have had two. The first was a bundle of trouble, finally got a refund. Fast forward 2 years, looked like they had solved the problems. Bought my second one. Functioned great, but accuracy issues. Groups looked more like shotgun patterns. Finally got tired of spending time and money, sold it at a large loss and have not looked back. There will never be another Remington firearm of any type in my small inventory.

The RP9 is a jammomatic and unsafe. One would be better buying a hi point
