Picked up an RM380 today. Very nice pistol, not Tupperware. Cost $149 after Remington's rebate. Think I'll like as much as the Bodyguard, maybe more. It's virtually the same size as the BG, just a bit thicker and about 3/16" taller.

I keep meaning to take a look at one to see what I think about the trigger. If I like it, I think I'd probably wait for the 9mm version which is soon to come from everything I've read.

It is a fantastic gun. Trigger pull is a bit long and heavy but very manageable. I have replaced recoil, hammer and firing pin springs with Galloway Precision parts. Trigger is much, much better after doing so. It is my EDC gun. The one thing I can say is that you do not read on about problems with the RM380 as you do often see about the BG here and on other forums. It is why I passed on the BG. The gun is all metal, and has slide rails the full length of the frames that contribute to reliability. I actually trust my life to it.

The trigger is a few pounds lighter than the BG but has a longer pull and breaks all the way to the back.

Yes it does break at the end of the pull, but if you dryfire it with snap caps it takes practically no time to get it down. I can sense the break and reset easily.

It gets really good reviews. It's biggest problem seems to be it's a Remington, the company people love to hate.
For $149 I'm really tempted to pick one up as a back up to my LCP.

Buy one. Then in short order after you shoot it your Lcp will become the backup to the RM380. The recoil of the RM380 makes the Lcp seem like a cannon. You can rack the slide with index finger and thumb. I could not find a negative review of it in print or on YouTube. The gun puts all other micro 380s to the back of the line. I shoot Lehigh tremendous Defense hydraulic ammo in mine. It gives consistent 14 inch penetration in gel, and the would cavity is twice the size of HPs which in 380 with. 2.9inch barrel only penetrate about 9 inches. It is like having a very small 9mm with less recoil that the average 380.

Another fan of the RM380. I paid $380 for one when they first hit the street. About a year later my wife liberated it. In May I paid $215 for a replacement (after rebate). I have absolutely zero complaints about either gun.

It is not a 25 yard target gun and not meant to be. But at 7 yards - here's 100 rounds.

$149 is a steal. My wife bought 1 for $350 just over year ago. She has arthritis and the slide is soooo easy to rack. We did the Gallaway springs too, much easier to pull the trigger, removes most of the stack and the pause before the break. Now the only drawback really is the **** sights, but it's not a target pistol. Never a failure to feed/fire/ eject with any ammo, gotta be closing in on 1K rounds. Need to test more fiocchi and hornady xtp in it, but that's the carry ammo we use for it.

Isn't it just a repackaged Roarbaugh (sp?) R9? They were $1,000 guns before Remington bought the company. I'd buy one if I weren't so against the round. I'd rather have one in 32acp.

I own a RM380 and love every thing about it except the ambidextrous magazine release. it is not pocket carry friendly, when I carry it in my pocket the magazine always releases in my pocket. I have tried three different pocket holsters and none of them have worked out.

I am surprised to hear that. Maybe the mag release spring is out of spec by being to light on tension. Mine requires a good push to erase the mag.

An Uncle Mike’s size 3 pocket holster works very well with the RM380. You can get one on eBay for about $10.

Another thing I like about the RM380 is how it’s grip can be used to position the trigger finger over the trigger housing. The photos show the gun with the red arrow pointing to the forward edge of the grip. Note that oint is directly above the trigger.

The next photo shows my fingertip aligned with that point. The last photo shows my finger on the trigger. To get it there all I have to do is drop the finger and it falls in place on the trigger. I have begun to practice this as I am going to use the pictured safe position rather than the extended finger along the slide. The technique was mentioned by Masoud Aboud in one of his writings. It saves a half second at least gen ting on the trigger and eleiminates all fumbling around while getting your finger into a trigger housing.

I have no idea why one photo is upside down, but you will get the idea.

Has anyone had any problems feeding factory Hydra-Shoks through their RM380? I haven't fired the pistol yet but have a few hundred rounds of this ammo on hand and hand-racking the gun results in problems, hangups on the feed ramp. Maybe I'm not generating enough slide velocity racking the slide by hand to feed properly? I know the recoil spring is fairly light on these guns.

I have not shot Hydra Shoks in the RM380. i have run Remington Ultra Defense HP, Hortnady XTP (hp) and Lehigh Xtreme Defense with no problems,of any kind. I do think that when you cycle the gun by hand the tendency is to release the slide in a manner in consistent with the return when firing it.

When I first ordered Lehigh Xtreme Defense rounds I wanted to test them by hand cycling since the bullet is neither RN or HP. It is a slotted ball bullet and I thought it might not go into battery reliably. I hand racked twenty rounds and found that when I crisply let the slide go the rounds went into register with no problem. But if I let it go wrong the round hung up on the feed ramp. I was certain. It was me and not the gun. I rounds of than ammo through it without problems.

I think you will be OK with the Hydra Shoks. I do recommend that you HPs from a 2.9 inch barrel. Poor penetration is normal and the velocity is such that most do not open. The Hornady XTP rounds achieve the desired 12 inch minimum penetration reliably and they open. The Xtreme Defense rounds inches and they cannot open as they are not HPs. They a hydraulic force bullets that drill their way through through making a wound channel that is superior to HPs. I made them my EDC ammo.

Thanks, Master Guns (and happy Veterans Day). I have a feeling it's just me and not the gun. I'll find out when I get it to the range soon.

Mine has been great. $149? Where? Might do a second...

Was just checking mine and it seems the mag release from left to right requires about 1/4 more travel to drop the mag than right to left does. If it starts to drop the mag in my pocket I might be temped to file off some of the right side release so it sits below the grip surface more. If it still drops I'd file both sides until it stopped. The release can't be very expensive to replace if it gets too screwed up.
