I have a couple of these in my gun cabinet. They look like some sort of reamer, the steel part is L shaped. Someone suggested it might be a key or trigger adjuster but I don't see any place to use it. I bought a Remington shotgun for each of my sons years ago, 870 Wingmasters I guess each must have had one of these tools with it, the plastic handle has "Remington" in raised letters.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance

It's a key, look at the safety, you should see a little key hole smack dab in the center.

Hit the nail on the head. It is/was called a "J" lock. On shotguns it is in the safety button and on the firing pin shroud (I think) on bolt action rifles.

For a short time period Remington firearms came with an internal lock. On the shotguns it was located on the safety button. On the bolt action rifles it was located on the bolt at the rear.
What you have is the J lock key for those firearms.
Remington discontinued the internal lock after many complaints.

Just saw 29 beat me while typing.

At one time the "Gun Lock" idea was spreading as a safety matter and several manufacturers tried it on long guns. I bought a Taurus .22 rifle maybe 12 years ago which incorporated a locking method something like that, and it used a small key. I never used it (and never will), but I still have that key on my keychain. I seem to remember that a few states were going to require integral gun locks on new guns sold in those states, maybe that requirement still exists.

Correct!! it is a key for the safety. Since I found two, I mistakenly figured they were for the two 870 Wingmaster shotguns I bought for my sons back in the 80s they don't have locks in the safety. These locks are actually for a "Home Defense" version 870 Magnum Express I bought about 4 years ago it does have the lock as you all described.
Thanks again, question answered!
