Remington UMC 9mm Ammo

A few weeks ago I finally got to shoot my RIA 1911 style 9mm. I had 5 boxes of ammo and and didn't shoot but two and a half boxes. The gun was fine but that was the dirtiest ammo I ever shot. My grandson cleaned the gun and said that it was a mess to get clean. I bought a thousand rounds of Blazer Brass and it is supposed to be cleaner, I hope.

I got the range buckets of Rem UMC when there was the sale & rebate Thanksgiving weekend. Haven't quite finished it up, but it isn't that bad!

Blazer is about the same as UMC.

Really people, your guns got a little dirty. Why don't you clean them and leave them in the safe, not shot. You want dirty shoot some black powder firearms. I see this complaint on the web all the time, most folks don't understand that most guns can be shot at least 500 to 1,000 times between cleanings. So they get a little dirty, so what.

As to the RIA 9mm, mine is very reliable, the only very minor problem is that it is very picky about magazines. They all feed 100%, but a few don't hold the slide open after the last shot.

IDK, while it doesn't bother me too much at the range if my ammo is dirty, I still wonder how it effects the gun as far as wear and tear. Also, when the zombies start coming, it could be a concern.

I actually prefer UMC because it saves me from having to drill out the flash holes. BTW, I clean my fresh cases using stainless steel pins in a wet bath and Remington is the ONLY brand I have found that has flash holes consistently sized to 0.083 inch in diameter. As a result I don't have to sort cases for pins jammed in the flash holes. If you ever take up reloading you will learn to appreciate UMC cases because drilling out the flash holes on 500 cases over a weekend is mind numbingly tedious.

As for 9mm 1911 pistols, they are such a joy to shoot IMO everyone should have at least one. Mine is the Ruger SR1911 Lightweight Commander and the recoil is nearly as soft as a 22LR semi, meaning it's a real powder puff. One thing I have found is that the finest magazines on the planet are Wilson Combats. While a bit pricey in comparison to the cheap magazines I have never found a more reliable magazine.

I've been getting the 350 round 'buckets' lately and while their powder recipe IS a bit dirtier than Federal Champion, it's not as dirty as WWB (100 round value packs) or any of the Euro-Made ammo recipes.

I've had an RIA 9mm 1911 for a few years and it shoots fine.
I do agree that it's picky about Mags.

That is kind of a smart *** answer. I have been shooting since I was five and got my first rifle at eight. I, along with most on the Forum know about dirty guns and when to clean them. Maybe UMC looked dirty to me because I had been shooting Federal in my other guns. The gun would have never functioned properly trying to run it to five hundred rounds before cleaning.
It was dirty.

I agree wholeheartedly with Sheppard. There are far better things to talk about other than dirty ammo.

UMC is decent ammo, Federal is my favorite. If you reload, the biggest problem with UMC is the thin weak brass.

9mm luger REMUMC cost me a firing pin and firing pin sp1ring on my Baretta 92FS. Tip of the firing pin was gas cut so that had to so and while the pin was out swapped out springs. Frank

If it gets dirty I just wipe and clean it up . What is a good ball ammo for 9 mm about all the 9 is weak or dirty , I think its shot in newer guns now more than old P 38s or something .

I'll have to agree. It's by far the dirtiest ammo I've ever shot in my 9's. I bought some at a sale price but I won't use it again. Even WWB is much cleaner.

I have fired and chronographed a large variety of 9mm ammo over the
last several years. Mostly 115 & 124 gr FMJ. REM UMC 115 gr is some
of the worst ammo I have ever fired. Clean or dirty is not an issue for
me, guns can be cleaned. The problem is that some brands of 9mm
are so under loaded these days that they will barely cycle the action
of many semi autos. Rem 115 gr FMJ only chronos at around 1050 fps
and will not function in several of my pistols. Much better ammo can
be had for about the same money. A few examples are Federal
Aluminum, CCI Blazer and Lawman that run from around 1175 to
1225 fps and are far more reliable. I wouldn't buy Rem 115 gr FMJ
for any price.
