I'm having some problems with extraction on my new (to me) 1026. It has handled several other rounds well, but will just not consistently extract Win Silvertips. It appears to just leave the spent brass in the chamber while the slide recoils back, picks up the next round and tries to load it into the previous spent primer

.

I took a look through the archives without too much success. About the only thing I found was a comment that the extractor pin can be near impossible to get out and another mention of needing specific guaging to get extractor tension correct.

Has anyone successfully removed or replaced the extractor on a 10XX themsleves, or is it a S&W PC only proposition? If it can be DIY, what did it involve?

Thanks

before you attempt

is this a duty gun? then send it in.
is this a CCW? then send it in.

if just a plinker, I would first check the
*extractor tooth (is it sharp or chipped/broken)
*extractor spring (does the extractor have sufficient tension) or does it flop around.
*how bout the chamber, does it have fouling to the point where it would need to be serviced. also, does ammo drop in and out. if you say its been shot a bunch, one would think there has been no issues till now.
