......I think I have tried just about every trick. To date nothing has even cut the odor. Must have been a light Smoker, 4 or 5 packs a day. Any new ideas or reccomendations?

Thanks.

you probably tried it already.
i had a 648 case that smelled the same you described. i put it in a trash bag with dryer sheets and a couple rearview mirror car air fresheners and left it un-opened for a week or so it worked on that

Thank you Guys for all the replies. This one has been frustrating. I have tried many things but so far no results. There were several ideas mentioned so will start on those.

It is a nice basket weave pancake style holster from EPS. Just perfect for a 631 4 inch. Would hate to not get it into service.

Try leaving it out in the hot Sun for a while. I have a pair of new mfg. cavalry boots that were made by a smoker and then Saran wrapped for storage. They smelled so bad when I unwrapped them that one hour in the basement stunk up my entire house. Two months outside off and on got 99% of the smell out.

Have you tried Arm & Hammer Odor Eliminator .
It is a granular odor and moisture absorber ... I'm sure it has Baking Soda in it ... it is designed to remove odors .
Get a small plastic container with a tight lid ... put down a tub of A&H , holster and cover with another 14 ounce tub ...
fill the inside of the holster ... bury it and once a week turn the holster and granuals .
If one treatment doesn't fully remove odors ... toss out all the old granuls and repeat treatment with fresh Odor Eliminator .
This method saved some leather gloves .

Both of my parents were heavy smokers (pack-a-day minimum). When they passed, I got the Tell City, solid Maple, kitchen hutch and the bedroom suite. I have scrubbed and scrubbed, and deodorized, to no avail. Even after 10 years, I can still smell the smoke. There is only so much you can with wood without ruining the finish. Airing out the leather holsters and washing down with saddle soap worked well though.

Tony, I wish I could help you! I have run into that problem a couple times myself, and I never found a satisfactory solution. The smell bothers me very badly. So much so that nowadays I will ALWAYS ask the seller if leather goods are coming from a smoker’s house. If they are, I don’t bid. I know I have missed some good items doing that, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck to you.

If all else fails, send it to me. I still smoke non-filter Pall Malls, so I won't be ab;r to smell it.

Ozone generator is the solution. Be careful with it, keep it in an enclosed space and don't breathe it in.

Check your local feed or hardware store for a bottle of Rat Sorb. A couple of drops on a cotton ball placed in a trash bag with the holster should have the odor gone in a day or two.
