renove brightness of a factory nickel finish

Hi friends
I'd like to refind the original factory finish, the revolver hasn't really deep defects. I have bought on eBay USA Wenol Metal o Auto Polish 100ml hoping that it isn't too much aggressive.
Anyway i think that if i use a very little bit of this wax i cannot do damage. If you thought different or for you the Wenol is too much aggressive advice me.

Marcello...Several years ago I switched from Flitz to Wenol in the blue tube as posted by handejector. I have used it with success on both nickel and bright blue S&W revolvers (primarily cleaning the latter). Use it sparingly and rub lightly. Follow with a generous coat of Renaissance Wax. You will be happy with the results :).

Flitz metal polish is the best I have found. Use a 100% cotton rag (old T shirts) and go lightly from the muzzle to hammer and back again. It would help if you fully disassemble the revolver first so nothing can get inside or underneath any parts. Thoroughly clean and lightly lubricate when reassembling. That would obviously require you to know how to disassemble and reassemble the gun first - or at least know someone who is very familiar with doing so.

Stop often, wipe off the Flitz to see your progress. Like others have said, even though the Flitz is very very fine, do not get carried away because you will remove some of the Nickel. Do not try to remove anything more than a minor surface scratch and you should be good. BTW, I would recommend only doing this one time - you never want to remove too much as the plating is quite thin.

Flitz is made in Germany so I would think it is widely available in Italy.

Personally, I wouldn't do anything. I would use it and care for it. You have a very nice revolver. Over time the brightness will diminish. Don't force, it will develope it's own character. Natural is always better, than a forced finish. The value of your revolver will be diminished if you try to force a new appearance.

One light polish won't harm the gun's finish - makes a "dog" look presentable again without a total refinish. No fears if properly executed.

I have a 586 no dash factory nickel 4" revolver in great shape although it has inventory number pencil etched into the side plate and trigger guard.
It had been issued to a university police dept back in the day.
The etching can be felt with a fingertip, and the edges of it appear to be raised slightly at the edges.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I'll try to post pictures

Thanks to the forum members who contributed to the success of the operation, thanks also to Wenol industries.
In the pics you can se the Mod 27-2 4" barrel with a renoved brightness.
Some shots togheter her sister and brother

Looking closely at the right side of your gun, Marcello, It looks to have proof marks (or something) on the right side barrel and frame. I'm curious as to what those marks are.

Very interesting. I went through my copy of The Standard Directory of Proof Marks and did not find the other two.

Nice polish job on that 27-2.

These proofmarks , yes, are Belgian . The L with he bombing flame is the bank of Liege. The underscored letter s corresponds to the year: 1980. The starred letter F is the inspector mark: Scholtissen Joseph

Marcello, I have had good luck with Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish on nickel guns.

The 2 white blotches in the first pic are just where I hadn't polished off the residue yet.
