I have a model 1 1/2 top break with pearl grips. They are thick, heavy and lusterous and I suspect they are factory original. There is a problem with them though as the right grip has a hole at the bottem pin. I remember someone on the forum talking about repairing mother of pearl grips, but I don'trmember any of the particulars. I seem to recollect that it was a dentist who lives is Texas. Anyone remember who it was? Does anyone have any experience with someone doing repairs like this for them? Any info or help will be greatly appreciated.

Mark;

I remember the thread too. I seem to think it was perhaps Dick Burg or Bob Bettis who participated in that discussion. I seem to recall that it was suggested that any dentist or dental lab technician might be able to repair pearls. Wish I could be more helpful.

I have seen good work by Dr. Ken Wm. Schafer of Hikes Point(Louisville), KY. Phone is 452-2326. Sorry- the area code is NOT on his card.

Ken's area code is 502. Yes, he's a Louisville area dentist and does outstanding work, but he's not a gunsmith so be aware of the problems. Legally he can't take your gun, work on it or the grips, and return it to you. If all you need is a grip fixed, he or any other dentist can just take the grip itself (without the gun, legally) and fix it for you. There's a problem with someone not being an FFL and fixing a gun. Don't put him in a bad position by trying to send the gun to him.

He's a fine gentlman, if a scoundrel. He scarfs up all the bargains before the rest of us!
