I want a different front sight for my 25-13 Mountain Gun. It is the pinned in blade. I am trying to find something like a patridge or post style blade. I checked Bowen Arms, and he doesn't have anything. I also would not be adverse to something like a tru-glo type front either.

I have a 625-4 Mountain Gun with pinned front sight and was also thinking about changing to either a gold bead or fiber optic. I noticed some of the replacement pinned sights come with a warning that they are not to be installed on a Mountain Gun. Why? Which Mountain Guns? The front sight on my Mountain Gun appears to be identical to the pinned sight on my 3" 625-4. They are the same height. Is the restriction just for the .44 Magnum Mountain Guns? My 629-1 Mountain Lion has a pinned front sight that is considerably taller than those on my .45s. This leads me to believe that the .44 Magnum Mountain Guns need taller front sights to hit point of aim, probably due to the heavy recoil. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Could it be the length of the sight vs. the length of the sight base?

I talked to Smith & Wesson yesterday and ordered a red ramp front and white outline rear for my 629-4 Mountain Gun. I asked them about the taller front sight that comes on them. To get the red ramp, which was a little shorter than the original, all I had to do was get a taller rear to line it up. They are sending a .160 rear blade to replace the factory .148(I think thats what she said) to make up the difference. Total cost was about $38.

Check SDM Machining. Scott has one of the better light pipe sights in 0.250" and 0.300" heights. He also makes gold bead patridge sights in the same heights.

You would probably be surprised to know that various heights and styles of front sight blades can be obtained from..........................................................................S&W.
