Reprofile barrel to 0.625"

I found someone who can add the A2 style front sight by reprofiling the barrel to 0.625 inches and pinning the sight on.

Does anyone think this is NOT a good idea? Would this weaken the barrel by making it too thin?

Considering the M16A1 and M14 barrels are only 0.585" my "guess" is you'll be OK for .22LR. :)

I still recommend only the 2" area under the sight be 0.625" and the area forward of that point cut to 0.600 (or so). The M16 front sight tower has to be hammered in place. No point in hammering it any farther than necessary.

Some robust set screws to hold it place will allow it to be canted one way or the other to zero it. The pin hole can be threaded to allow this.
