I gave my son my first run 686 years ago and lately have been in search of a replacement. My old gun was a square frame 6" but found the new models very front heavy and the triggers I have been seeing are s bit rough. So when I got my mitts on a 686+Deluxe 6" I was surprised how well the conversion stocks added just enough to the heal to balance the heavy long barrel. More surprising was how buttery smooth the double action I'd. I grabbed it, made some spring adjustments and added an extended firing pin. The trigger is now smooth 8 lbs 4 Oz. And the single action is a crisp 3 lbs 9 Oz. I don't care for the look of the stocks with press cut checkering but they feel is great.
Photo is my first few shots double action, 30 feet full power 357 mixed with 38 specials and the stocks. I shot 150 round double and single action with no hiccups.

IMHO the 686 is S&W's finest revolver in terms of size/weight and handling. Not too big, not too small. Handles full power .357 ammo easily.

I carry my 3" 686-6 more than any other handgun by far.

When you have all the good characteristics of a gun converge.....you get the 686.

It's hard to be critical of the 686! As others have noted, it's not too big and not too small. It's just right!
I've been enjoying my 6" no dash for the past 12 years.

I traded my 4" M10 Classic for a 3" M686, because I prefer a 3" barrel, and that is only available on the L frame these days.
I know the K and L frames have the same grip size, but I wonder if they have the same trigger reach. I have a J frame sized hand and the trigger reach is a little challenging on the 686. Seems like the K frame was the same, but I'am not sure.

Hard to say since I have target stocks on the L and boots on the K. Maybe someone else can chime in.
