I always liked reuben and rachel sandwiches and decided to try making them for myself. I've been taking the turkey or corned beef straight out of the refrigerator to assemble everything before grilling. My question is whether it would be a better practice to heat up the meat in the microwave oven or skillet a little bit before assembling and grilling everything. Thanks in advance.

Pre-heating the meat would be a good idea, but do it in a frying pan or on the flat-top. Heating meat in the micro-wave changes the flavor, and not for the better. This would probably be a better idea for the Rachel's turkey than the Corned Beef for the Reuben. I pre-heat the sauerkraut in the frying pan too.

the Reuben holds a special place in my list of favorites.. I buy extra corned beef points and flats when they are on sale for St Patrick's day... especially since the Reuben was invented in my home town... Omaha... sorry NYC... and yes, warm up the meat & sauer kraut assemble and grill... mmmmm

Whenever I go to a new restaurant and if they have a reuben on the menu, I get it. I have long considered the reuben sandwich or a burger to be the measure of a good restaurant. Kind of like a long island ice tea. You gotta make a good one.

Special K and I have tried many places to eat and most have failed miserably. Crystal Beer Parlor in Savannah is great on all counts.

I have given up on trying to find a palatable pizza. I am convinced it does not exist anywhere near me

I love a good corned beef Reuben
I think we’ve been to Chrystal Beer on one of our many trips down the SE coast. So many good places in that area it’s hard to remember. Our base camp in Savannah is the Marriott Savannah Riverfront.
One of our favorite cities along with Charleston.
St Patty’s Day in Savannah is super crazy, we found that out some years ago, by accident.

Mrs. RSBH44 makes a Killer Ruben sandwich. She ought to , she managed an Italian deli for over 13 yrs. She heats the lean corned beef and kraut on a cast iron griddle before assembling everything and then grills the marbled Rye sandwich to perfection. The thousand island dressing is made from scratch an there is always extra on the side for dipping. I’ve tried Rubens in Every restaurant that we’ve been to over the years and Nothing compares.
Mmmm mmm , I think I know what I want for dinner tonight!!

The secret to the NJ pizza is a low hydration, long cold-fermented dough (3-5 days) for a slow rise; then, quickly baked in a very hot oven dressed with quality ingredients.

To do it at home use a stone or steel on the top rack position in an oven preheated (1 hour+) to 550F, so the steel or stone get over 600F (still short of the high temps possible in the commercial ovens) but will produced a nice thin crust NJ pie.

Corned beef Reuben, one of my favorite meals.

My wife has been trying to make a super Reuben and her last few have come out decent. FWIW, trying to find Sauerkraut in this area lately has been disappointing, hardly see it on the store shelves. Why I have no clue.

About a 15 mile drive to a little village with a big local food & general store and the owner makes a super good Reuben. Only on Tuesday at lunch time and if I'm out I will drive a bit to get one and take it home. Its so big it feeds both of us.
