Over the past few years I have written several threads here and raved about the 3 Ruger LCP Max pistols 3 of our friends own. I personally do not own a Ruger, but I have shot theirs many times and have lots of experience with them.

Up until one of my friends had over 4,500+ rounds through hers, none of them exhibited any issues. About 3 months ago she had a slide retention pin spring failure and the pistol ceased to function. She shipped it to Ruger and they replaced the spring (only) as best as I can tell from the packing slip that came back with the pistol.

Fast forward to the present and now her pistol will not reliably fire a loaded magazine without multiple FTF. Which of her 3 magazine she uses seems not to matter at all. The ammo being used is from the same manufacturer and same lot so I believe that rules out an ammo issue.

Since she is getting different types if failures, I suspect that the extractor or ejector is worn beyond reliability and the recoil spring might could be an issue. At the round count the pistol is at now - all is possible. I would normally try and fix it for her, however since the pistol is under warranty and Ruger is paying the freight - let them do it! I do not own any Rugers and have no parts for them so even if I figured it out, I could not fix it anyway.

So now we will see if this is just an anomaly or the LCP Max is a 4,000 round pistol. Our other two friends that own them have nowheres even close to the round count that this pistol has - maybe under 1,000 rounds each at best.

She is shipping the pistol out to Ruger today so we will see what is going on, if they properly and quickly fix and return it and how it functions after that. I will post what the resolve is. I truly am not a .380acp fan, however the small 12+1 or 10+1 is (or was) very impressive as an EDC. So we will see if my opinion changes and if owners can expect longevity or a short life span of this pistol. Ruger still has pretty descent CS so I would expect them to either fix it properly now or replace it. We'll seeeeee.

My LCP Max has been reliable. I probably have passed 500 rounds, maybe.
I would need to be gifted cases of 380 with Gold Eagles inside to convince me to shoot 4000 rounds!
It’s a handy, small, reliable carry gun but I don’t really enjoy shooting it!

Glad to hear that it's reliable!

Our friends purchase their ammo by the case and get free door step delivery from Target Sports in CT. They also have the best prices on ammo I know of. I believe they paid $13.50 a box of 50 rounds for the 380acp ammo - not terrible in today's market. Prices do fluctuate, but overall their prices and CS can not be beat! At that price for factory ammo and if you don't have any old priced reloading components, it does not pay to reload that particular caliber now. Yes, if you have old "normal priced" primers and powder you can still reload them for $5/box of 50.

I am one of the very few in our group that actually reload - and yes, I stocked up when prices were "normal" many years ago.
