High in the Mountains!
Over the last month, Ive picked up 4" & 8 3/8" smith 500 and a cherry 337 Non-IL.

Shooting the 500's is a blast! Everyone in the indoor range stops shooting when I let off a 500, women run outside! I am waiting on dies. Can't wait to make some cast loads and load it down a bit some my father can comfortably shoot it. I've got a 50ae desert eagle, now I just need a 50 GI upper for my glock 21.

Big Bores are fun!

WOW! I don't think that I am a 500 kind of guy. The last thing I want to do is make women run! I am 61, but like sissy 45ACP for my big bore. Have a 625JM. (2 other .45's) Don't shoot .357's in my magnum guns. Do like to go to the range and enjoy myself though. Reloading for that beast is the way to go. Post some pics when you get a chance! Bob

The 500 is too large for me at 63yo too. I chase enough shooters away with my stout 44mag loads.

Welcome to the forum. Good for you!

I have no interest in the .500 myself, but glad to see that others do.

When I was younger (68 now) big bores were fun. I've managed to break my left wrist (I'm a lefty) 2X in the same place over time and now problems have set in. I limit myself to mostly .38 and .22 w/some .40 thrown in now and then.

I'll be 65 in three weeks, and have a 4" and 8 3/8" 500 that I've owned for quite a few years, got the longer one in '03 when they first hit the market, and the 4" a couple years later. I shot both guns extensively when I was a young whippersnapper in my 50s! I still enjoy them, but confess that the blast and recoil isn't quite as easily tolerated as it was a decade ago. Still, they're great guns and I'll hang onto mine for the duration. I don't shoot them indoors, however!

I'm kind of with Old cop, seem to enjoy 38s, 9mms, 45ACP and 45Colt for most of my handgun shooting anymore, and .22 also when I can find ammo!

The revolver bug is really a TIC that never goes away it just digs in deeper and deeper. Using the TIC powder or juice doesn't work too.
When you have the revolver bug really bad there's more than one TIC. The only cure is to buy more revolvers.

WOW!
I must be the odd man out.
After my wife shoots the 9mm shield this week, I will sight in my Ruger #3 45-70 and my S&W 500 Magnum for hunting.... :)

And I have few years on some of you guys..... :)

If I needed a gun to hunt with, maybe a 500 would not be that bad to fire. Just how many shots are you going to need? Other than that, I do not think that I would enjoy shooting 2-3 boxes through it for FUN at the range. JMO. Bob

I was never one to fire a lot of rounds through the 500s, even when in my 50s. I think the most I ever did at one session was about 30 rounds, and that left me feeling a little battered. I don't do light loads in the 500, figure if I want to fire a pipsqueak round I'll break out the 44 Mag! Nowadays I'll put no more than 10 though it. No ill effects, but I find that after two cylinders full, I'm ready to call it a day.
