Wish Smith would make some M&P 340's, M21's, and Night Guards without the lock. I'd be beating feet to my dealer yesterday.

I'm with you ladder13. I too would probably pick up a 340 M&P in a heartbeat if it were offered sans lock.

I can't believe S&W is making the Classics with locks in them. Are they insane?

Just my luck I get in the mood to buy revolvers again only to find that useless abomination incorporated into them.

When S&W finally stops using the Internal Lock, will they replace the frames and hammers of IL guns under warranty?

If they can offer the M&P either with or without lock and keep the company lawyers/shareholders happy, why can't they also offer lock and no lock versions of the revolvers? Let the market decide.

Revolvers owners are more prone to accidental discharges as they are not used to operating complex machinery.

Let Safety Wesson keep the locks. Plenty of good pre lock S&W revolvers out there.

Ruger is making new lock free revolvers as well.

If you need an internal lock to keep your handguns secure around children, perhaps you should reconsider handgun ownership

They're downright ugly, end of story. Pimple, weephole, zerk fitting,crater...you name it. Very unnatural, and an engineering marvel.

I'm with Animalmother!
If it even resembles "common sense gun laws" OR, "can save even one child" OR, "can prevent another massacre", then no doubt
it's worth it.

I'd prefer they didn't have the locks (or drain holes as I've learned some people refer to them), but the NGs are very nice albeit expensive.

I'm committed to not purchasing a handgun with an internal lock. Sorry S&W but you have lost my new purchase business. Plenty of older models available.

+1

My question is what is wrong with an external lock? Include one in every box, use it or not as your conscience dictates, and 40 years down the road it becomes a premium item along with the original box, papers and cleaning stuff. Win-win all the way around.

Re: the lock!!!

What is the big problem with the lock? Ignore it and dont use if you dont want to. You all claim to love and collect Smiths. Right? Bet some of you are mad that your ignition lock cylinder is on the steering column or that the steering wheel locks. Treat it like the air bag switch on your vehicle and turn it off. No bigger problems in the world have you?

I wish everyone would take your advice.
It would help keep the price down on all the older no-lock S&W's .
Last NEW S&W I bought was a 642 NO-LOCK.
And if S&W doesn't come out with anymore NO-LOCK revolvers.
I'll never have to worry about spending high dollars on their guns again.
