There is a great Nixon quote that I had on my wall for years cause I could never remember it to repeat it. I have lost it. It goes something like this.."what you thought I said is not what you heard.. or something of that nature. Anybody have it. It's priceless Nixon Gibberish.

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but
I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
-- Robert McCloskey, U.S. State Department spokesman, at a press
briefing during the Vietnam War

My favorite was when Press Secretary Ron Ziegler said "Previous statements inoperative."

I don't think that was an actual Nixon quote.

Here's my favorite Nixon quote:

"Politics would be a helluva good business if it weren't for the people. Oh, and ......
"Well, I screwed it up real good, didn't I?"

Charles Colson supposedly said "I"d walk all over my grandmother to get Richard Nixon reelected."

Sir, Spiro Agnew said that--in a speech written by William Safire.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Spiro T. Agnew was the featured speaker at a bankers association convention banquet that I went to with my sister-in-law in the 70's. He was an outstanding blowhard in a profession that produces big blowhards. He was also apparently quite a crook.

"My advisers are not always right but they're always sure."

Got a chuckle over that one, because my dad often said of my mother, "Seldom right, but never in doubt!" She was a Democrat (through inheritance) and dad was a staunch Goldwater Republican.
